Goodyear tire problem...

I took delivery of my Titan this past Friday, wow, the wait was worth it!

I hate raised white letters, so part of my dealer prep list required the dealer to unmount the tires, flip them over, remount and balance them. During my first hour of ownership I discovered it vibrated really bad at 65 mph.

I called the dealer on Saturday and dropped it off this morning. I told them the truck vibrates really badly and I suspect the balancing you guys did was not very good.

I just got a call from the dealer. Goodyear is going to replace all 5 of my tires. Apparently the problem is in the tire itself and the vibration cannot be cured by balancing.

Oh yea, forgot to mention, Goodyear can't get the replacement tires to my dealer for a week. Well if I'm going to be inconvenienced like this, I guess it is my obligation to do some smokie burnouts this week...

It looks like they may have mounted them wrong and as such could not balance them. It is hard to imagine that all 5 tires are bad.

No kidding... however they claim the problem is the tire itself, and apparently Goodyear was very quick to offer substitute tires. There is no way in my mind GY would hand over 5 tires for free if they thought the problem could be solved with balancing.

As far as replacing them all, that just makes sence to me, they sure don't want to see me coming back over and over agaon...

My 80 000 mile G/Y's are shot at 40 000 miles and no amount of balancing or alignment has corrected a 75mph shudder. (they have been roatated and balanced every 6k)

Methinks this is the last set of G/Y's I'll ever own.

Wow!
Now I'm really happy I noticed the problem on day 1 of ownership and started complaining. Sorry to hear about your frustrating situation, clearly I agree, no more GYs after this set wears out...

The GY suck.
Get some BFG A/T in 285-65-18 instead. Good tires.
Michelin also has a cross terrain.

I got lucky and only had one bad tire, but I got the local GY guys to replace it for free, and they even put the truck up on the alignment machine to check that. They gave me the print out to take back to the dealership, and had them fix the alignment issue. I am sure that all your Michelin problems will be solved shortly. I have put over 77K miles on four sets over the years. The LTX M/S is the best overall tire out there. We should have one available for the 18" rims by years end. I personally have only had two sets of BFG's and they were square. Could be the roads here in southest Texas, but I would never recommend them to anyone. Just my 2 pesos worth.

So Bhudda454 what did GY say was wrong?

For the record when the GYs wear out I'll be going with the Bridgestone A/T Revo, well that is if they make the 18" size by then. I have over 300,000 miles of experience with BFG A/T and they are okay, not real good in the water and ok in the snow/ice, but real good off road, on the hiway and they have great sidewall stiffness, but I believe the Revo is going to be a superior performer in the wet and snow and that is what I need from my A/T tires!

Revos are the best but they don't make our size yet. Not sure why. They would sell like hotcakes.
I don't like Michelin due to its French roots. That's just me. But they do have our size. Hey Frenchie

I posted this last week about these sweet tires GY Fortera Silent Armor A/T's with a 620 Tread wear rating and a 80000 mile warranty. They balance perfectly. But they are a 285/60/18 and they are wide. But they dont rub at all. It makes the truck handle like its on rails. Give um a try next time. I paid $100 over the GY SRA's for these and the SRA's only have a 360 Tread wear rating.

I only found 2 name brandthat carry a 18 inch A/T tire and they are Continental (almost look like street tires) and the GY SRA's (need I say more about those). That is why went with the Fortera's. They also have a rim skirt to protect those rims if you scrape the curb.
