Titan/Armada factory damages tires by over inflation...

Here is my original thread
Goodyear tire problem...
My truck has a born on date of 5/18/05

When I picked up my truck last night I got the whole story. Apparently as soon as the dealer called Nissan and said look we have bad tires on this new Titan, we can get them balanced, but on the road the whole truck vibrates. As soon as the factory heard this they said "yes we know", call GoodYear and they will send you replacements. So the dealer then calls GoodYear and they said "yes we know", the tires were over inflated at the factory and this caused some of the internal carcass to be stretched beyond its limit and the tires must be replaced.

So, as all stories go there is good and bad. The bad is if I actually wanted the raised white letter tires it would be three weeks before they could be received. The good is I think raised white letters are dorky and I can get black walls in just 1 week.

It's a shame you need to take it easy on the truck during the breakin, otherwise I would suggest lots and lots of smokey burnouts... :

Breakin is a topic of great debate. I'm very much a break in kind of guy. For my first 300 miles I hardly touched the gas and never went over 3,000 rpms.
The miles from 300 to 400 where I'm at now has had a few higher revs including one all the way up to 6 quick short little burst. I'm trying to walk the fence between break it in like you will use it, and break it in real easy.

And yes, I agree, smokie burnouts are clearly on the menu.

So, is it suggested that we take our trucks in to the dealer even if the "shimmy" above 60 mph is almost unnoticeable to get new tires? Or should I wait and see if it gets worse?

. when was your truck born, close to my date? This problem could not have gone on forever without them figuring it out and fixing it.

. if it were me and your truck is new I would take it back for any vibration

. so we are all clear, my vibration is not subtle it is severe so severe I don't think I could handle it for more than 30 minutes without getting sick to my stomach

White sticker on the side of the driver's door will tell you month and year. The big window sticker that lists the options on your truck will tell you the date if you know where to look. It's hidden in other places around the truck as well. Sorry, I don't have more time to detail it more, but do a search as it's been asked A LOT.

GoodYear is not able to give me a date for replacement tires. originally it was 3 weeks to get the raised white letters of which I hate, so they said they could give me plain black in 1 to 2 weeks. Problem is, nobody will actually stick their neck out and give me a date. I've seen this movie before, it will be one delay after another...

I have told the dealer the thing that would solve all my problems and would make me happy is if they take the 5 wheels/tires off the brand new Off Road Titan and put those wheels on my truck. As far as I'm concerned at this point I think I would prefer the 17" OR wheel instead of the 18" BT wheel. Having introduced this truck more than a year ago I'm not very comfortable with the extremely limited tire choices that have come along for those of us who want to stay with the OEM size.

Should I take my truck in if it's bouncing at low speeds from the tires?

That's up to you. If it were me and I was not 100% happy I would have already gone, bit that is just me. Keep in mind my situation is at 65+ mph speed.

Here is a sad update...

One of my proposals to the dealer to get me up and running was to just give me the 17" tires that came in on the Off Road Titan the day after mine was delivered. Guess what - the BFG All Trail tires were over inflated and that truck has a vibration as well.

I suspect as more trucks built at this time go from sitting on dealer's lots to being bought, we will see and hear more about this.

Right now I'm just plain screwed. Good Year is saying the tires are on back order and they don't know when they will show up. Yesterday I got really irritated and just told the dealer to order them from Tire Rack, they have them in stock....

Mine were all at 50 when I picked the truck up. No permanent damage though - at least that I can detect!

I bought my truck used with 3900 miles on it and at about 4500 I checked my tires (because of this great site) and they had 44 psi in them so I lowered them to 35 psi. I have not noticed any viberation but I just wonder if any tire damage will show up later on? Only time will tell.
