Pieces of Equipment for XM

Just to make sure I'm not missing anything, I need to buy an OEM XM box, a Nissan Mounting Bracket, and any old XM antenna I can find? Anything else I need? I've heard maybe a splitter? Thanks.

If you do not have a column shifter, you can use schneid's mounting method and secure the XM receiver to the knee plate on the driver's side dash. When I bought mine, the XM receiver came with little angle brackets in the box that are perfect for this mounting method, thus I think you don't need to buy a bracket. On mine, the Nissan (Clarion) XM receiver is set up for a dual lead antenna. So I needed to buy a splitter to connect a Terk micro roof mount antenna.

Here are schneid's mounting instructions:

Unless you need that OEM look, go for the non-OEM XM radio. It's less than half the price and hooks right up to the AUX in and the antenna can be run under the rear mats up and out the rear slider and it's a magnetic one about the size of a matchbook....never see it. I did this and it works perfectly. Just a though.

It depends on what radio you have. I don't have the aux jack on mine. I have the base single CD radio. I went with the XM commander that is mounted in the overhead console where it angles. It looks really nice. There's a splitter that hooks into the antenna wire behind the head unit. It came with an antenna that is mounted on top in front of the rear center tail light.

Here's a pic...My only issue is that I'd like more volume, but I grew up in the 70's and 80's...Additionally, the Commander comes with a remote. I never thought I'd want a remote, but it's kinda like having the remote in your hand while watching cable TV, you tend to surf....
