Please respond with what type 87, 89, 91 and the brand. I want to see if there is a majority or if someone has some insight on what is best for the TITAN.
I use 87 most if the time ( every 3rd or 4th i will use 91 ) and Unocal 76.
I got used to buying 93 octane for my Lightning and guess I will continue to do so. I did a comparison (in a Z71) and found that I got better mileage with premium than with regular. Not to mention "no pinging". I don't know that the better gas mileage will compensate for the price difference. I also add about 3oz of Lucas gas treatment to every 10gals. The Lucas gives you the upper cylinder lubrication that unleaded gasoline lacks. I buy it by the gallon.

Gas is gas. All has to pass an octane test. Some stations are better than others however. Station owners will put in lower octane, rig pumps, etc. I use 93 mostly but 87 sometimes. Never 89. Never had any knocks with 87 and you only get 2 points of octane for 10 cents on 89, but 6 points on 93. More bang for the buck. I usually go to Raceway, Costco, Citgo, Chevron, Murpheys, etc. Whatever's cheapest that week. Same for thei Infiniti.

87 ocatane BP/Amoco. The octane debate has been beaten to death. If a vehicle was designed to use 87, 93 will have no benefit and is a waste of money. In actuality, 87 octane has more energy potential in comparison to the slower burning 93 octane.
I just tried some Shell 87 and I seemed to get a little better mileage. I'm not sure, so I'm going to track it carefully for awhile. Maybe I just kept my foot off the floor or something.
My brother is an ASE mechanic and a manager at a dealer department (Ford-Lincoln-Mercury: and I bought a Nissan). He says never use premium gas unless it is specifically recommended by the manufacturer. Not only is it a waste of money, it can actually degrade your engine performance over time. It is important to match the octane of your gas to the octane levels your engine is engineered to use.

I had the unfortunate experience of stopping for gas at a Shell station in Lordsburg, New Mexico yesterday and found 86, 88, and 91 octane were the only three choices. the 86 octane was 2.48/gal so I thought "what the heck" and put it in. The engine was quiet as always and there was no noticeable performance loss. And, to my surprise, at the next fill up I calculated 16.43 mpg over a 200 mi stretch. My second-best observed fuel economy of the trip (AC the whole way killed my mileage but gotta keep the pregnant wife happy

I use strickly 87 octane, even if towing. There was a good short article in car and driver magazine this month about auto manufactorers setting standards for gas(detergents, ect.). They refer to it as top tier gas, and if a brand meets the standard in all of thier grades, they will display a top tier sticker on thier pumps. The only brand listed from the east coast was Shell. The Titan engine is designed to run on 87 octane. Using anything higher is not only a waste of money, but may actually result in poorer performance. Where? Which ever station has the best price.
