Nissan Recalls 140,000 Vehicles

Nissan Recalls 140,000 Murano's
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050718/.../nissan_recall

WASHINGTON - Nissan North America Inc. said Monday it will recall more than 140,000 Murano sport utility vehicles amid concerns that a broken wire in the alternator could deplete power to the engine and lead to a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a posting on its Web site that a wire could break inside the alternator and prevent the battery from charging. The charger warning and brake warning lamps would come on and the battery would start to discharge. After a short time, the engine would go into a condition that limits the vehicle's speed and stop running, creating the potential for a crash.

The recall involves more than 125,000 vehicles from the 2003-2005 model years and more than 15,000 vehicles in Canada, Nissan spokesman Dean Case said. No injuries or crashes linked to the problem have been reported, he said.

Nissan said in a statement it was "committed to a high level of customer safety, service and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this condition."

The recall is expected to begin on August 3. Dealers will be instructed to inspect and replace the alternator with a new version that has been upgraded to prevent the problem. Owners can contact Nissan at 800-647-7261.

The government, meanwhile, opened defect investigations into two SUVs: the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2001 Acura MDX.

NHTSA said it was reviewing alleged problems with the fan in the Grand Cherokee's cooling system. Four owners reported that pieces of the broken fan blade cut through a plastic casing around the instrument.

The investigation involves about 132,000 Grand Cherokees with 4.0 liter engines, said DaimlerChrysler AG spokesman Max Gates. He said the company was cooperating with the agency and beginning its own investigation.

In the case of the MDX, NHTSA said it was looking into complaints of the coil spring breaking in the front suspension and coming into contact with a tire. A spokesman for American Honda Motor Co. could not immediately comment on the case.

There have been no injuries or crashes from the alleged defects.

Would also be nice if NISSAN would get their fingers out of their A--es and fix the Titan BRAKES, Guess a charging system is more important than something like BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the new rotors and pads installed on my truck last week. I had only taken the truck in once before at 6k and they turned the rotors. Last week I dropped it off for an oil change and I said the brakes were pulsating slighty. Truck has just over 8k on it now. When I picked it up the service advisor told me I got the new brakes. No hassle or getting on my knees. Just good service.

Why is this posted in the Titan thread?
I care about this as much as I care about a recall on a Dodge Durango. WTF?

I received the new brakes after the first fix as soon as they came in. There was no hassle about it. The new brakes are great still! I'm sure it's not Nissan replacing the brakes, as Bosch made the brakes for them.

Recalls always seem to get posted, regardless of make. And being that some people on here actually own Murano's too, so it's not a bad thing...

If you'd pull your fingers from yours, you'd see that Nissan did in fact fix the problem. If they have yet to upgrade yours, demand it.

the fix is called a TSB - doesn't always have to be a recall to get an issue resolved.

The brake issues and the other issues would be considered if enough folks went on the NHSTA site and filed a complain so the powers that be know about it.

Does a TSB informs all customers with defective product to pro-actively return their truck to the dealer to get em fixed?

More like let em go through some pain and suffering and then if they notice we will talk about fixing em

To the blindly faithful the recall announced is just proof that Nissan is proactive and has a large market share!
