Just got off the phone with a dealer close to me. I guess they just got the new listing of changes to the '06 Titans. Not too many significant ones. Here they are (at least most of them):
- CD Decks will play MP3 files
- Auto temp on the LE
- Power sunroof option on the SE
- Outside Auto dim feature on the mirrors for the LE
- Turn signal indicators on outside mirrors (big tow only??)
- SE Mirrors will be black rather than Chrome (Big tow??)
- VDC (Vehicle Dynamic(?)Control) available on all, including with locking rear end
I think that is about it. Nothing too significant. He also mentioned that for 2007, Nissan may offer a long bed Crew Cab if there is enough interest.
Man......power sunroof would be nice........the wife really wanted one, but nothing on any of the lots around here with one except 1 fully loaded LE (DVD, Nav, etc.) which had it up around $40k. no thanks
I really wish Nissan would come out with a small Diesel for the 1/2 ton. I think there is a huge market for smaller 1/2 ton diesels. Same towing capacities as the 5.6 but gas mileage easily up in the 20's. I still can't believe Ford or Chevy haven't done it yet. I guess they think it'll eat into their 3/4 ton sales.
But seriously, a nice inline 6 turbo diesel under 300ci. Maybe 250 hp/400 ft-lbs and 20 city/ 28 hwy. NICE! I'd be sold.

MP3 player is a big deal to me, have an aftermarket one in my Tundra and love it. No Chrome is a big deal to me too!! I love that chrome, one reason for me to opt up into an SE over an XE. Damn, they're gonna make this expensive for me. I'd almost go for the 2006 over an 05 for the Mp3 player. Having your portable one is one more thing to be stolen, (plus i don't have one) plus it slides around and plus you don't get to control it from the steering wheel. Them little buttons on them are hard to push.

I totally agree, Tommy. If Nissan were to do something like that, I am willing to bet the market would go wild over it. Gas prices going higher and higher, and the diesel would offer some pretty good performance, too. Probably not the power the Endurance engine has, but some definitive mileage gains. Europe has it figured out, I don't know why manufacturers here won't do the same.....????
Nissan is position better than the big 3 to offer a smaller diesel. They don't have a 3/4 or 1 ton to try to up sell people into and have several overseas diesels models now. Toyota could do the same. Which ever one figures it out first is going to have a nice little hit on their hands. Nothing aimed to overtake the Powerstroke or Cummins, but then again, most don't need 600 ft/lbs of torque. Those that do, seem pretty satisfied with the market as is.
Heck, I know a few owners of the VW 1.9 turbo diesels making 250ft/lbs and getting close to 50mpg on the hwy. Think what a nice 4.0 turbo could do.

Anybody hear anything about displacement on demand (I think that’s what its called) where 4 of the 8 cylinders would shut off during cruising periods to save on fuel for the '06???
I like the power sunroof on SE and the signals in mirrors. I was just thinking of the displacement on demand thing the other day. The hemi has it I think, but it might only save 1-2 mpg. Anything helps I guess. They should offer the captains chairs in the XE. I bet they would up there sales a bunch if they did that.

September 1 is the date that the dealers will allegedly start getting '06 Titans.
Displacement on Demand--Briefs well, but I doubt it will get much better gas mileage. I heard 21 MPG on the highway as opposed to 18, but that is EPA rating and not real world.
The hybrids are having a real problem with the EPA ratings, too. The Toyota Prius is rated at 61 MPG in the city, and most people are reporting closer to 40. Not that 40 is bad, but it is 1/3 less than advertised. Again, EPA numbers v. real world.....
oh yeah, and they have a small problem actually staying running. I will wait for a diesel hybrid. That is where the future is. The following link is not to start a flag waving Deep horse manure political debate. This is just to show that not all the military monies are going to waste. They are working with Dodge and this comapny to develope viable diesel-hybrid electric vehicles. Once they get all the bugs out, it will transition into the civilian market. 400 dollar toilet seats pay for this type of stuff.
