Catback Exhaust???????????

Well I have narrowed my decision to the Gibson single swept side or the dual sport exhaust. I plan on towing an 8000# toyhauler, I have a K&N drop in. I want more pulling power and dont know which one offers low end or high end power etc.. Any suggestions...Thx....

either one will kill low end a little and it could be noticeable while pulling. you'll also notice a lot of noise while pulling with either of the catbacks. If you're gonna tow, I advise stay stock for low end grunt and noise.

Check Flowmaster/custom single-out

I might suggest what we did:

I have a long post elsewhere but the essence is that the guy running the shop and I are both old-fashioned hotrodders. We took a look at the underside of the truck and decided that 2-1/2" to a 2-in/1-out Flowmaster 50 was the answer. We went from there with 3" to the fender and hid the outlet so that the local constabulary would not notice the truck so much.

The result is a quicker/harder jump off the line, better pulling through the midrange, and the high end is about the same. Cab drone is a little louder but my wife doesn't mind it and THAT was the deciding factor. The truck also will lock the torque converter at 40 MPH now, and hold lock.

The trick is to not completely dump the back pressure but to manage it correctly so you don't lose all your low end grunt like you would with a big dual-out system.

The price difference: $380 for this, out-the-door (including 7.8% sales tax) versus over $500 for the other systems, at least with the freight and install in our area.

Hope this helps.

I must have missed your long post about that but I will go find it... that sounds like a really nice setup. Are there any downsides to this in performance? It seems like a no-brainer to have this done if it's just a few hundered bucks. Does it affect fuel economy?

Check out the Hooker AeroChamber Muffler. They sound great, have alot better flow numbers than flowmaster and it won't hurt the pocket book. You can get them from Jeg's for about $64 shipped to your door.

NO downside to performance. Lots of guys go for the big duals (because, hey who doesn't want a bigger pipe) but the end result is top end (high rev power) and nothing else. Great for dragging but too much freeflow actually hurts your bottom end. Plus with all the stuff in the way on the Titan, you end up with only a 'single and a half' because of the route the left pipe has to take. With modern stainless steel systems, this doesn't really hurt much, but it used to mean rustouts in short time with older pipes and materials.

The fuel mileage has been affected maybe .5 MPG better, but that is 'in the noise' so I don't claim it.

The big advantage for me is that the engine works less hard when towing, and it has a lot more grunt to get the whole rig rolling. I don't do the long solo freeway trips anymore but I would think that this has to help the mileage when out and droning like that.

Steamguy...Are you saying that you cut the pipes before the Y and ran 2 pipes to the muffler? Then 1 single 3" pipe on back. Pics would be great if possible. Thx.

This is exactly what we did. Factory Y pipes are notorious for being restrictive.

We cut the pipes just after the cats, keeping the stock connectors, then went back just enough on the left side to get a good S turn and straight into the muffler. The FM went into the original muffler's spot, and we used the original hanger hardware and positions.

This bought us a nice changeout using all the stock stuff which has nothing wrong with it. We had a little bit of chirping from the way the rod on the stock hanger rubbed a bit but a few whacks with a hammer to gently bend it fixed that.

I don't have pix, sorry.
