had my '05 (born on date of april, '05) at the dealer yesterday getting service on a couple of different items, but since i was going to be there anyway, i told them i was experiencing a very slight amount of brake judder (at times i thought i did feel a little bit, but i'm thinking i've read so much about it here that i made myself believe it was juddering when it really problem wasn't). anyway, i just assumed i had the old rotors because i have the old brake pads (as evident by the excessive amount of brake dust). the dealer turned the rotors and adjusted the brake pedal. on the way home i called him back and asked if the turning of the rotors automatically puts my name on the list for the "permanent fix" or if i needed to tell him to put my name on the list. his response was that i have an '05 so i already have the new rotors.
my questions follow: is what the service rep told me true that i could have the new rotors but have the old pads?
is it possible to request the new pads?
how expensive are ceramic pads if the dealer won't replace them and i decide to replace them myself?
I think a 4/05 would have the new brake hardware. I have the same birthdate truck as you and it also produces a lot of brake dust, I believe that's going to happen with any pad stopping a 3-ton truck.

Deal with the brake dust and forget ceramic pads. My son has gone through 3 sets of rotors (warping/cracking) on his stang because of ceramic pads. And it's not like he doesn't have a choice, he works for NAPA.

I haven't used the OEM "new" pads, but the Stillen metal matrix pads that I installed with the Stillen rotors produce alot less dust than the "old" OEM pads that came with my '04 Titan.

Because of ceramic pads??? I've had great luck ceramics on many vehicles. The only downside I've ever noticed is slightly increased pedal pressure, everything else is great and (pad and rotor) wear is acceptable to good...

I had the new pads and rotors installed on my 04 about a month ago and about 3000 miles later I have only had to wash the wheels 1x and that was because the truck was dirty. hardly any dust with the new brake fix I had done. Not to mention the fact that 1000 of those miles were towing a trailer about 3000 lbs and 500 lbs in the bed.

IT IS TRUE! I just went to the dealer to get my center console/armrest replaced ( I noticed the top right corner had fabric lifting off and wasn't sewn down) and I complained about the brake dust. He then told me that my titan (may 2005) had the new rotors on so it should be ok. Then he saw the massive amount of brake dust and found out I had the new rotors and the old brake pads. They gave me the new brake pads and cleaned my wheels. I only have 1200 miles and I havent had any judder and I didnt even mention it. He just said all titans/armadas have brake problems and gave me the new pads to go with my new rotors. I was amazed he was a real good guy, gave me new brake pads and I didnt even ask for/about them. So its possible to get them replaced, your dealer should give you new ones if you complain about brake judder, that was what he wrote down as my reason for fix. Hope it helps- Chris
I would just tell him that there is a judder and that there is way too much brake dust and he should replace the pads for you. List me as a specific example, if he doesnt believe you I will email you a scan of my ticket showing the work. If he wont, ask to talk to the manager and b*tch and b*tch and they will give in. Your request isnt unreasonable so I dont see why he wouldnt do it for you. After all my service guy brought it up to me and just told me he would give me new pads while it was in for the console. Good Luck
Just got mine done yesterday, drove it 150 miles today and NO DUST!!!!!!! I'm VERY HAPPY!!!!! Now lets see how long they last???????? New front rotors, pads and turned rear rotors and new pads on the rear. The service writer told me that Nissan will cover the brakes for 3yrs. UNLIMITED MILES!!!!!!!!!!
i am happy to announce that i had new rotors and new pads replaced on my 05 titan. i just came back from a 1500 mile road trip from sacramento to san diego and points in between. there is virtually no brake dust to be seen on my wheels since the new pads and rotors. i love the new pads. the old pads produced so much brake dust that after a couple of days, my rims looked like crap. the new pads are awesome!! titanrookie
Ain't it amazing that NISSAN is fully cognizant of the brake rotor and pad issue and has taken no steps to pro actively contact owners and provide due process to alleviate the issues!
If many of us would get off the blindly faithful type stupor and complain to the NHSTA and Nissan they may actually do the right thing.
It is atrocious to have to find the issues and then plead and beg the service department to provide the solution which is rightfully deserved.
