Tint question...Titan specific problem?

I had tints installed recently 23% (they look sweet) and after the install the owner had some bad news for me. He told me that on most cars and trucks there is a soft velvet-ish liner that rubs against the inside of the glass. The Titan does not have this velvet-ish liner and has a hard rubber strip instead. He told me that after time the rubber strip is going to scratch the tints and leave marks.

He offered to install new window liners for $40-$45 bucks. Should I have this done or is this guy selling me snake oil?

P.S. I have high quality 3M tints

My tint place told me the same thing, but they didn't say anything about them being able to change the gaskets.

I have noticed some vertical scratches on the tint.

Well this sucks... I had 25% Llumar put on 2 weeks ago. I don't really roll my windows down very much, though. I like the a/c

I didn't tint my windows but I have noticed that when I come out of the wash or when it rains my windows are smeared all to hell.... you'd think for a 32K they could install some fuzzy stuff to help wipe the water away.

Factory tint is in the glass, not on it.

My tint is all scratched to sh!t also, and my tint guy doesn't know where to get a liner or protector strip.

Will you give me (either post or PM) the name/number/contact info for your tint guy please?

I'm interested in this too. I just had my fronts done 20% a couple weeks ago. It's been pretty hot here, so the only time windows are down is going through drivethough at the bank or for fast food! I'd like to see the problem and a possible solution before my tint gets messed up.

Anyone have pics of the door pulled apart showing the rollers or whatever so I can get a look at whats causing the problem? I've had my Tacoma tinted for 5 years, and it still looks great.

I had mine tinted about 6months ago and there are NO scratches! I went 18% and looks to be the color match. Maybe my shop use scratch proof tint. Guess I'm lucky.

i just noticed i have same problem. but you know i dont really notice it nor does it bother me. besides i can always be chaging the tints 1 year once i see it starts to get bad. my friend does my tints. he uses very good quality tint. he charges me $30 to do the front doors. i plan on tinting the complete front window with a light tint shade so cops wont stop me. its sunny and hot in miami, so it will reduce some heat on the dash.
