Anyone have a recommendation on the best oil filter??

I never thought Purolater and Amsoil were on the same level? Anyways if you use synthetic oils you may want to look into K&N or Mobil1 filters, most of the Maxima owners love them.

I've been using the Purolator Pure1 in my Tacoma since 99, and now in the Titan. It was highly rated and readily available. Also using Pure1 on my Titan, but my truck is probably the low mileage driveway queen of the forum for an 04 (3400 miles) and I'm just getting ready to change it over to synthetic.
Did a conventional oil/Pure1 swap at 500 miles.

Fram gets ripped pretty universally, but I have to admit I used them in my old 5 liter Mustang and it was still running as strong as ever when I sold it at 88,000 miles. I stuck to the 3000 conventional oil change routine though. I've been doing 4000 with the Tacoma and Mobil1, and thats what I'll do with the Titan.
I see guys wanting to go 15,000 between changes with synthetic, which I just can't bring myself to do. I keep my stuff at least 10 years, and the extra cost of oil over that time is only a couple hundred bucks. Not worth screwing around and sending out samples in my opinion.

Take a look at the Nissan Filter and the Fram Filter see any similarities? The screw-on housing is the only difference. They both merely the same.

Its really a moot point. The OEM filter shows outstanding numbers on UOA's. Such low insoluble levels that you could really only do worse or best case match its performance.

I know the Amsoil filter looks like the Wix inside, having a real spring rather than a springy piece of spamped steel

Purilator Pure 1

Better quality components used to manufacture their filters. More filter pad surface area, steel ends on the filter (vs cardboard)

I religiously changed my oil every 3000 miles on my Frontier... I traded it in at 90k miles and it ran like new. I had a couple of mechanics tell me that with the synthetic Mobil 1 I was using, I was wasting money... the oil just looked pristine every time I had it changed. Like you, it didn't bother me much.

The Titan, on the other hand.... I have settled on the 7500 mile schedule. I have to drive about 900 miles a week, so buying 7+ quarts of Mobile 1 every four weeks just seemed a bit much to me. Hopefully that decision won't bite me in the keester later.
