Engine Detailing Tips

Personally, every few months I spray a little Simple Green under the hood with the motor warm and give it a quick spray down with the water hose on mist. I am careful not to soak the altenator, belts etc. I get an old towel and wipe everything down and keep it looking new under there. Be careful to read the Simple Green instructions. They indicate you need to cut the mixture. Get another empty squirt bottle and cut 1 part Simple Green with 4 or 5 parts of water, it lasts quite a while. If you have real heavy build up under any hood here are some simple tips http://www.se-r.net/car_info/clean/detail_engine.html

I usually...

I do it to a cold engine personally. Hate to spray chem on a warm engine block... may get chemical burn stain on some type of metal.

I also use some foil wrap and cover things like fuse box, non-water tight housing. Mist the engine bay, Simple-Green everything, hose off. Then I attack it with a Shop-Vac using the blow function and blow any water build up out of the frame work. Then sun-dry.

After all dry, I use some transmission fluid to clean any soft rubber... cause the Simple-Green dries up all the rubber hoses.
