Kayaking Titan Owners?

I finally got a chance to try out my factory racks and my new toy. Took a little trip on Saturday to float my boat on the Black River here in South Carolina.

The boat is a Perception Eclipse 17' Airalite with Yakima Mako Saddles and Hully Rollers attached with Universal Mighty Mounts.

I am not overly impressed with the Universal Mighty Mounts. I think I need two sets ($45 each) to feel safe with my kayak up there. Anyone use something else to attach kayaks to the factory racks?

I am contemplating engineering some new mounts for the Yakima attachments. Or I might try making some foam block style rockers that would slide onto the factory rack.

Sweet boat!

What do you mean by two sets of mighty mounts? Each roller or Mako saddle should be mounted using two mounts. Are you only using one mount for each?

I carried my scupper pro (14' 9") just like that on my crossbars (I used land shark saddles front and rear)with no problem. I also used front and rear tie downs. It worked well.

Some foam blocks might be the ticket though. A lot cheaper than a set of $45 mounts!

Kevistan-

Thanks for the comment. Yeah the boat wsa great...now I just have to learn to properly paddle her so I can leave the cheater board (rudder) stowed.

So you are using same set up but with total of 8 might mounts. That makes sense...except the Yakima dealer I went to said the book only listed needing one set of 4. No big deal.

I looked at some foam block solutions. These two look like they are decent deal and I think are large enough to mod for Titan bars.

I may still try to fabricate a custom mount to take advantage of the 4-bolt capability of the Yakima saddles and rollers.

Any good places to paddle up there in North Carolina?
