What's wrong with my transmission?

When I went out to go to work this morning my transmission was locked. It wouldn't shift into gear. I had to manually override the transmission lock. I had the same problem getting the tranny back into park once I got to work. Any clues on what would cause the tranny to do this?

Neutral safety switch has possibly gone bad.

Also if it matters it is a console shifter that comes with the captain seats.

I found the problem. I blew a fuse while I was installing a brake controller (see my other post). I replaced the fuse and the transmission works like a charm. I guess that I drove into work this morning without brake lights.

I guess it didn't let you put into drive for a reason. I remember my old 4 RUNNER had the same problem and I manually put it into drive (via the emergency thing on the shifter thing) come to find out I had a blown fuse also and that one fuse control my transmission shifting. I drove to work about 15 miles and my truck never got out of 3nd gear. I was wondring why my RPM was so high
