Blinking 'Check Engine' Light!

I've have not been able to get an answer, even from the dealer, as to why my 'Check Engine' light blinks. It only does it under a heavy engine load and at high RPM's, like when pulling my boat up a long grade. As soon as I back off the gas, it stops, with no apparent effect on performace, either while flashing or after.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

By the way, I'm just back from another 1,500 mile round trip drive from San Diego to Lake Powell, Utah. I drove both ways non-stop in 110-115 heat pulling 8,500 pounds with the A/C on the whole time. My worst freeway speed was 50 mph in second gear up the grade on south I-15 just past Stateline, Nevada. Cruising speed on the flats was an easy 70 mph. Engine temp and tranny temp guages never moved.

I won't complain about gas costs, since I had to fill the boat with 80 gallons every day at $3.50 on the lake!

Flashing engine light usually is an indicator of emissions issue. If the dealership can't tell you what is wrong, find another. The code should have been written to where the Consult can retrieve it.

As posted above... get a code reader. A good one running around $80 will have a minor internal program for running a diagnostic on your system as you drive it around at different RPM/speed range. Like everyone told you… it’s just an emission issue so don’t think your engine is going to blow up or anything.

Also, this happened to me couple of times when I’m playing with older engine running newer ECM. When you tax your engine during towing, your ECM may mess up a little. Try running higher octane fuel in your system to see if you are having a retard issue which may cause you to have bad emission coming out of the pipe.
