Tow mode: What is it actually doing?

I have a 4x2 without the big tow package, but I have that little tow mode button. What is it actually doing when i hit the button? Is it just locking out the 5th gear or actually changing shift points? Thanks guys!

No, it does not lock out 5th gear. But it does indeed change the shift points. It will hold a certain gear a bit longer.

I think all Titan have that button. Toyota have that PWR/ECO button, kinda same thing, hold the RPM a little higher.

It would be helpful if it did lock out 5th gear. Since you're not supposed to use it while towing.

There is a good section in the manual that shows which gears are affected by the tow mode, and how the shifted points are raised over the regular mode.

Ummm no they don't. The Tow Mode button is part of the big tow package.

The owner's manual explains all of this. A lot of people need to just sit down with the manual for an evening and most of their questions will be answered.

The TOW MODE was standard on ALL 04 Titans......big tow package or not. I doubt that's changed for 05. Anyone not have it?

That's weird, not saying anyone is right or wrong. It's just that my friend had an 04 4x4 he recently traded for an 05 4x4 both CC and WITHOUT the bigtow. However he has the "Tow Mode" button in both truck.

I thought it locked out 5th gear.
The tow button on Our Ford locks out 4th gear and changes shift points a lil bit.
But ive never towed anyhting with my truck.

Not unless pulling an old Blazer out of the mud counts.
