im sure it has been discussed before, but i am looking to buy exhaust. I like the smooth deep sound, and not so much the poppy slappy kind of sound. Which exhaust would be my best bet? does anyone have sound clips of thiers that i could listen to. I heard one of the flowmaster 50, and i diddnt like it so much, but its kinda hard to tell from just the sound clip. anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks

I too would love a nice exhaust but I can't afford to lose any torque because I tow a camper. Most of these aftermarket ones do just that, although they raise HP, torque suffers. I'm not willing to find out the hard way.. just how much.

I believe this too be true as well although one solution to low end loss with an aftermarket exhaust is to complete the upgrade and add a CAI. I noticed the low end came to life after I added one after my exhaust. Not to mention dyno gains of around 40 torque and 15 Hp with the CAI after exhaust.

I also am interested in upgrading my exhaust system with an aftermarket exhaust system and add a CAI - However I was warned by the dealership that if I ever required warranty work on the engine, exhaust system, etc - that my warranty maybe voided. So what is your thought on this and have you had any discussions with your dealership regarding warranty coverage.

WoW, my dealership put my aftermarket exhaust on. With my exhaust and CAI, the dealership has even done a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for excessive engine noise. They have never said anything about my intake and exhaust. Federal law protects consumers regarding modifications. It is the burden of the dealership to prove that the mods done caused the damage. It's called the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act .

i had 04 titan with gibson cat back and volant unfortunately engine blew but dealer replaced engine no problems, they actually told me engine blowing had nothing to do with mods ,guess it depends on dealer. now have 05 titan love my baby.
nytitan1, congrats on the 05, just picked one up also. Just curious if they gave you an explaination as to why the motor seized? I also had the Gibson cat back, modified airbos with K&N drop in. I was not afraid to stomp that pedal and luckily never had a motor problem.

I got the B&B exhaust its pretty pricey (MSRP 859, 700 shipped from proficientperformance), but it is all 309 stainless steel so it will outlast my truck. Lifetime warranty with it. It has a great unique sound, Im 100% satisfied with it. No low end torque lost here. I havent really noticed any huge performance differences, I think its a little quicker but that might be just because the sound makes it seem faster haha. Goodluck - Chris
Has anyone actually dyno'd their truck with the exhaust and/or CAI? I've not seen one done on a Titan but I've seen them on Fords and CAI or not, the high-flow exhaust stole some torque. I want to do it but I need my torque!

I have a Flowmaster 50 series dual exhaust along with the Volant CAI. I have definately lost some low end torque. I have gained some upper rpm HP though.
I repeat...definately lost some low end torque.
So I guess it's a wash....lost some low end, but gained some high end. It seems to "bog down" or "bog out" when I first get on it,......but then WHOOOOSH....it REALLY starts to pull, and you can hear the engine roar and sucking in the air.
Over all I DO NOT think that my truck is faster with these mods. In fact I think my Titan was a tad (just a tad) quicker when it was stock...off the line anyway. Someone with these same mods will scoff at my comments I'm sure, but I'm telling you how my truck responded to these mods. (Don't let the AWESOME sound fool you. Just because it SOUNDS faster doesn't mean you ARE faster)
Benifits are that the exhaust looks and sounds really good, as does the intake. As for an increase in gas milage..I dunno?? Never checked. But ther may be a gain of 1 or 2 mpg??
I did not do these mods for gas mpg increase or speed....I just really like the looks and sound of the mods. However, I would have GLADLY accepted any other benifits (didn't see any though)

Do you have a true dual setup? I ask because I've also read that a true dual out saps the most low RPM torque. I'd low to see dynos on both the dual and single out.

Ok let me just throw in my .02 to lend some help. The only reason why you lost low end torque with a duall set up is because it isn't a real effective duall set up.Most drag race cars that run dualls have it custom made, the way it works to my knowledge is the only point in which the 2 pipes meet is in the middle of the car.As if you were looking at an X ,this creates the "scavenging effect" and in a sense creates a sucking of the exhaust.Such set ups as this have been known to be so strong it can actually suck the charge/air/fuel mixture right out of the cylinder. And when properly set up creates an almost zero backpressure and has been shown to give more torque then open headers(in some cases/cars).So this whole thing about "you need a little backpressure so you don't loose torque" makes no sense to me,back pressure is bad and you don't want it period. Now most aftermarket duall exhaust doesn't resemble an X duall exhaust, they "y" off to one side where 1 side has to travel longer to meet the other side before going into the muffler either duall in duall out or single in duall out etc. depending on your system. Then after the muffler the 1 side has to bank off of certain turns(creating backpressure) to get to the other side of the truck to where it's exit is thus you have 1 side travelling longer then the other side(making the scavenging effect not work) banking off multiple bends and turns creating more backpressure and your engine having to work harder to push the exhaust out the extra side. Now if you were to compare that to a single exhaust system like Banks(which I have) you have an exhaust with a muffler that is straight through, least amount of bends possible, better bend angles, and not having an extra exit for the exhaust to travel to and through. You will have greater gains in tourque/hp in a single exhaust system then a duall exhaust system, unless you can make the duall system create the "scavenging effect" and even then you will be running a muffler-less X-type system(which I don't know if it's street legal) so if your looking for power go with a well set up single exhaust system like Banks,if you want looks and dont care about possibly loosing low end torque go with a duall set up.As for sound I think most will aggree with me banks sounds best Just trying to help you out hope I've been of some assitance, you may very well think I'm full of sh!t and don't know what I'm talking about your entitled to your own opinion

By true dual I assume you mean two mufflers. If so, then no....I have one muffler (single 3" in/dual 2.5 " out).
The Banks is not a dual exhaust, so you won't lose any low end torque. I like the looks/sound of the duals though.
I had duals on my other truck as well and had the same result......lost low end/gained high end.
Where did you hear a sound clip of a Flow 50?? I would like to hear it to compare to mine. Mine sounds really good. Not raspy at all. I wish it was a little louder though. I was considering swapping out to a Flow 40 but I have read that they can get a little raspy/poppy when you get on it. My 50 has a really nice deep tone to it.....just wish it was a little louder.
