PICS and Location of your V1?

I'm going to install the hardwire kit this weekend. I live in VA where it's illegal to operate a RD, so I need it to be as least noticeable as possible to outside lurkers. I'm still not sure where to mount my remote display. I'm thinking of building a custom enclosure like I did in my Maxima.

I constructed an intricate and highly visually distractive linear polyhedronic container that visually isolates and obscures the V1 module from constabulary investigation or recognition. It has been installed behind of the vehicle's windscreen. Identification results have been nominal. Here is a photo:

Speedzones will be publishing their new test sometime this week, but the results are already known. Motortrend named the Valentine 1 the best radar detector. Speedzones named the Valentine 1, Escort X50 and the Bel 895 the best detectors. You can't go wrong with the X50, Bel RX65 or the Valentine 1. The Valentine is the most invisible to the Spectre Radar Detector Detector and Roy Zegers from an Austrailian company has a Valentine 1 that is completely invisible to all RDD's albeit a $1400 price tag. I've done my own testing with the X50 and the V1. Results are too long to post, but either one is a great detector and will give you plenty of warning time to threats. The X50 is pretty bad at detecting laser, actually the V1 is the only detector that actually does a good job at detecting laser. At the Speedzones test this year the V1 detected laser 100%. Read on radardetectors.net for more info. Be prepared for hours of reading.

Mine is on the windshield next to the rear view mirror. Had it there on two different cars for a couple years. However, for stealth, I've seen them mounted into rear view mirrors. Looks like the mirror until the lights go on.

Install the dector in your overhead console so that when you need to, you can flip it up! The antennas can snake through it quite nicely...

Yes, you need a slim one that can fit in the compartment.

The only other option I have seen was right by the drivers side door where the cup holder is. Snake the wiring through the other wiring and up onto the A pillar.

I live in Va also.. back when I had a detector in my '95 Accord I just left it in plain view of the dash. I drove by plenty of police officers (with it unplugged at that point) and never was stopped. Of course when you park you must take it down, but being as expensive as the V1 is I'm sure you had that in mind anyways. One of my friends put his in the upper-left corner of his windshield, on the tint strip and also never had any problems (his V1 recieved great signal up there).

I still drive a Maxima. The wife drives the Titan. Gas would kill me if I took it to work. It would cost me about $100-$150 a week if I drove it to work. I never take it down in the Maxima because it's so well hidden, you can't see it. The Titan is a different story as it's cabin and upper windshield are in plain view of everything. I only use the V1 in the Titan for long trips which we are about to embark on. 2 weeks in Myrtle Beach

MSRP of the V1 is $399
Escort Red display is $300
Escort Blue display is $340
RX65 is $330

The Escort X50 can be found on group deals on different forums for much cheaper. on maxima.org they had a group deal for $240 with the red display. The V1 is only available at valentineone.com that price is firm.

Keep this in mind with the price of the V1. If you search on ebay, you will see that you can sell it years from now at almost the same price as you purchased it. Also keep in mind that the V1 is fully upgradable from software to hardware. Escort and Bel claim to be software upgradeable, but to this day nobody has been able to do this.

If you want something cheaper, The Bel Vector 995 or 895 are good choices. Anything cheaper than those, I wouldn't even bother with. The false alarms will drive you bonkers and they don't have nearly as good of reception.

I purchased the Valentine V1 when it was first released many, many moons ago.
I have periodically paid Mike Valentine a very small reasonable fee to have the old guts of the unit ripped out of the case by the roots of its transistors and replaced with fresh new state of the art circuitry to make the unit good as new. Super flipped out top performance in all four compass directions.

No other company treats me like a king. And as all use guyz no, "it's good to be da KING!"

The X50 is probably the king of false alarm category. It does a great job filtering out false signals. Part of the reason the V1 falses a tad more is the fact it has 2 antennas and the front antenna is also larger and provides better off axis alerting and much better rear detection. Police rarely "shoot" you from behind with radar because it's much harder for them to catch you afterwards. Shooting you from the front allows them much more time to pull you over. Once you live with the V1's directional arrows showing you which direction the radar source is coming from, you can't live without them.
