In an effort to get my massive truck as close to the curb as possible, I guess I rub against it sometimes.... It seems that there is a white layer of rubber beneath the top black layer on the sidewall. I know I could have the tires re-mounted with the letters in and that may take care of it but I was hoping for an easier fix... anyone have any ideas? BTW... I have the Goodyear's
The only fix is to not rub curbs. Every white lettered tire has a "white wall" behind the black rubber. Hitting curbs scrapes off the outerblack layer and gives you those lovely optional white wall tires.
Your only options are either live with it, turn the tires around or buy new tires.

I think "I rub against it sometimes" is an understatement! I rub against the curb "sometimes" and my tires are fine. There is a white layer of rubber under the black layer on tires with white raised letters. Your only option is to switch the tires around.

You and my wife must have had the same driving teacher!
Actually I just don't like to be that dork that leaves his truck hanging out in the street... these trucks stick out enough as is, so if you have some mystical way to get your truck against the curb without your tires rubbing... please let me in

Rubbing the curb also messes up your alignment which can cause premature tire wear, I have the big tow mirrors and you can see the curb in the bottom mirror so I very rarley hit curbs

Respectfully, what fix are you looking for? You rubbed the rubber off the tire. That equals no fix. Armorall or any tire dressing won't do you any good.
Pay the few bucks and get your tires switched to blackwalls if it bothers you. They look better IMHO anyway, and remember that it''ll happen again if you don't pay attention to how you park
You said it exactly... RESPECTFULLY, and I appreciate your repsonse and that is what I anticipated. I figured I would run it by the group here to see if anyone had an easy fix that I hadn't thought of as is the case so often here with the experienced, great group of people....
Now, for the rest of you clowns: I don't care how your wife drives or how skillful or cool you think you are parking your truck. For my job (which I likely make a lot more than you doing) I have to park against curbs approximately 5 - 10 times a day in heavily populated area. After 15K miles, I can see some white on my tires and was looking for some advice... not to be insulted because I rub my tire against the curb. Maybe it's time to put down the mouse and get out of the house a bit more often.
Thanks to the vast majority of the people here that make this board great
try some black spray paint $.95 at wally world not a perfect solution but cheap and they'll be black

When I get to the parking area I Allways back in. It keeps you from being blocked in by someone else. And besides you have to back out, so why not back in first. I think you might be able to line your truck up better so you dont rub the tires(at least that is the case for me). Good luck!!

I really dont think any of the guys are trying to be disrespectful im sure. They just try to get some laughs. Take it all in stride. Kinda like a bunch of guys sitten around chating about their trucks. From some you get laughs and jokes then the conversation calms down and you start getting real answers, then a few more jokes come back out from your buddies. Peace and good luck with your tires!!!
