I still think it's the converter. They have a way of smelling differently when hot, cold, etc.
Is your truck new by the way? If it is that could be another explanation, a new vehicles exhaust has a unique smell.
On the other hand if you have several thousand miles on it and this is somthing that is just now happening it might be somthing to be concerned about.
