How hard is removing the bed?

Has anyone out there removed the bed-how hard a job was it?I had a heavy item in the bed-braked hard-it broke loose and slid into the front of the bed -kinda dented in the front of the bed-wide and long dent.
I tried to"push" the dent out from behind-no way.I have to take the bed off.
Tough job?How?Thanks.Charlie

Well just don't forget to undo the other important items.
There is a boot around the filler cap to hold the filler neck in place.
There is also an electrical and mechanical fitting to the evaporator housing (charcoal canister). This is behind the fuel tank and in front of the axle. No tools required. You may have to have your engine light reset when you disconnect this.

If you disconnect the battery first, and then perform the work and reattach the related components prior to reconnecting the battery, you should not have any issues.

Disconnect the two support cables from the tailgate, next hold the get open at a 45 degree angle, pull the left side of the gate out towards you and as it comes out move it to the left to let the right side release too. It does help to have assistance to prevent damage as the gate is awkward to handle alone.

My '04 tailgate comes up from the right side first. Different tailgates for the different years?

Does the '05 have more because of the tailgate assist?

make sure you have plenty of hands to help you on that tailgate. Its hellishly heavy when I took it off.
