Aftermarket exhaust bending valves!!!!???

A friend of a neighbor who owns a Dodge HEMI removed his aftermarket exhaust after hearing about valves bending from other HEMI owners. I can't be sure of the brand but know he had the dual straight out the back pipes. A secondary reason was that he tows a trailer and the exhaust sound bouncing off it was annoying.
My question I guess is......before I go spending anywhere from $400 to $700 on an exhaust, can we be sure this can't happen to us? Because if it did, Nissan wouldn't cover it I'm sure. Anyone have ideas?

Is he ACTUALLY sure the exhaust caused the problem? I know it wasn't him specifically, but did the person(s) it happen to verfiy that it was the cause.
You know how bad things travel and spread...

I've heard of exhaust possible causing error messages and some emissions issues, but never an internal problem. But then again, I'm not a mechanic.

To add to that-I don't think anyone here has had that problem, and I'm sure tons of people have aftermarket exhaust systems...

BTW-Are you considering that Banks Mossy said he would sell for 425? I know I am!!!

Yes, the BANKS was the one on top of the small list. And if I could get it for $425, it'd be the ONLY one on that list!

I've heard of bent valves caused by a lack of backpressure from people who've removed the exhaust entirely so, I know it's possible. Assuming that it WAS the aftermarket exhaust, I want to be sure the Titan doesn't have the same probelm in the future.

I've done my share of wrenching and I can't for the life of me figure out how they could be related. Values bend when the come in contact with the piston. That happens because something in the value train fails. How that can possibly be related to the exhaust piping is just silly.

On second thought, it's remotely possible... If the exhaust value is relying on a bit of backpressure to close the value, then it could be possible. But if that's the case, the engine designer/builder was a moron - they should have been using beefier value springs.

Still, I call BS on this on.

Well, I think there's a huge difference between aftermarket and no exhaust, BUT!! anything's possible!!

On the Banks buy-I keep looking for a response from Chris on what the next step is. He's got us all worked up like teeenage boys on prom night!!!

Vavles don't bend from exhaust pressure. Something may warp from heat, or they get bent from contact with the piston. Well I guess the exhaust gas could bend the valve if it was MELTING!

yeah I dont think this is even plausale I mean I know on turbo applications the least amount of backpressure the better and hell even on n/a cars you want less backpressure with a good scavenging affect so I just dont see how this would happen unlees the hemi needs the back pressure to close the valve

My thought is that the guys has used a computer programmer to remove his rev limiter. He probably "floated" his valves by over-reving the engine. The springs in his valves weren't stong enough to pull the valve back up, nore was there enough time to pull them up. His valves probably then tapped the pistons and bent. Typically motors are free spining. Which means you are in luck if you break a timing chain/belt. The engine will rev without the valves hitting the pistons when the timing is off. However this is thrown out the door if you "float" the valves.

Bent valves due to no back pressure from exhaust? No way!!! Dragsters don't use mufflers or anything except a short pipe!!! I bent a valve one time on a cross country trip due to carbon build up, heard a tap, tap noise and engine ran rough, but ran it home wth 7 cyl. for 1500 miles.

BS- he over revved!

This is unadulterated BS.Best bet is what has already been mentioned-he over revved-maybe DCed his limiter.
No one would want to admit that the F..ed their truck, and Dodge probably didn't over build their motor ,so they discourage adding power-and they want to dodge(ha,ha pun) any warranty issues.Charlie

Is that the price though? $425? And does that include shipping? (doubtful)
