Real Work truck

I just used my titan today to make 2 trips to Lowes. First trip I had 24 bundles of architectual shingles and 5 rolls of felt. Send trip I had 29 bundles of architectual shingles. The truck went real low in the rear almost like I had hydraulics or something. I think I may have exceeded the load capacity but I'm not sure how much a bundle weighs? The trip was only 21 miles and the truck handled pretty well for all that weight and it was unloaded right away so only about 35 minutes under that full each time and she seemed to spring right back no problem. The titan is a real work truck and I'm glad I have it.

What are your work truck escapades??

Uh OH!! I just found out that the bundles weigh 87lbs and 29 bundles weighed in at 2,523lbs plus 2 200lb passengers equals 2,923. The payload capacity for my crew cab 4x4 is only 1453lbs it never seemed to bottom out and I took it really easy nothing overheated So I hope I'm OK.

If it's a one time thing or here and there it shouldn't be a problem, any more frequence than it might be a big problem.

Uh oh!

You probably heated up the brakes pretty good and may want to watch that.

I just bought a set of helper springs (not that you should overload a vehicle) but I wanted to prevent the damage if I accidentally did what you did.)

If you bottomed out on the shocks, you may want to check that as well. I did something similar to my Ford Bronco II (I know not really the same caliber as what you did) but actually did bend the spring and shock tower on a turn!

Well I hope its a one time thing as I only want to do my roof once. It didn't seem to bottom out at all but I'll check tommorow for sure but everything looks good and bed height see about the same as before and I forgot to add in the weight of my ARE Z series cap(150lbs bringing the grand total to 3,103lbs) . Well I bought a truck to do some work around the house and it seemed to handle what I believe will be its toughest test. I don't think I wouls have gone much further with that load and it was mostly highway so I think the brakes were pretty safe as I kept my distance via throttle control and didn't use the brakes that much. I neded to clean the rust off my disc anyway with all the rain we've had.

PS I had one of those Bronco II they sure were fun little trucks too bad they became explorer that short wheelbase made for a nice real SUV

I miss that little rig too. I am surprised how many here in Raleigh, NC are still on the road!

Your cap weighs about 150 lbs by the way. (I have the ARE CH model and did the comparison.)

Roofs done

Not bad for a hack amateur who's never done this before and is scared ****lessup that high on ladders. Was quoted $8,000 to have it done costs for me to do it $1,800 for everything including hauling the shingles in the trailer for disposal.

Thanks been out of work for a couple of months now.It was $ 1800 I bought on a tax free holiday we had so 5% savings there 1st lowes card purchase 10% off so it wass probably about $2100 without those savings but that also included a $200 24ft ladder. The way I look at it is if I had been working the past 3 months I probably would have made 6-7,000 so my savings is my paycheck that I've been missing hopefully I get my job back soon but its been good to have the time with the wife and little one and I feel a real sense of accomplishement doing the roof myself.

Looks like you did a good job. If you had hired somebody, they would probably have just nailed the new shingles on top of the old ones, and still charged $8,000.

hey man, it's a titan, of course it's a work truck. when we were remodeling our house, i had tile that added up to be wayyyy over the payload. it was just over 2K and handled like a champ.

as far as being quoted for 8K, we decided to bring in a contracter to see how much they'll charge to add a new den and patio and a new roof to our house. they quoted 72K!!!! not 7200, 72,000. we ended up doing it our selves and cost us less than 16K. my girlfriend's family wanted a patio and were quoted 12K, we ended up doing it for them and cost them no more than 3500. nothing beats doing work on your house yourself. wanna know what a real truck is, my dad's 96 ram 2500. when pouring the foundation, we bought pallets of bags of concrete. each bag weighed 90lbs, and there was 36 on one pallet, that's over 3200lbs. that dodge brought 16 pallets of concrete and showed no sign of issues. my dad didn't let me bring pallets with the titan because we had just bought it then, he's like "don't mess it up, it's brand new, break it in first."

I tote 875-1500lb gun safes in the bed, as well as on the trailer twice a week. Max trailer weight has been a gross of 8200lbs. Max I've had in the bed was a 1500lb safe plus a 4800lb gross trailer with about 400lbs of hitch weight.

Words of wisdom: DEAVER SPRINGS+Bilsteins=AWESOME load control!
