if nissan did add displacement on demand and a manual tranny option would you ever recoup the extra cost of a diesel?

People don't buy a diesel truck solely for the mileage, so that's a moot point there.

In the toyo/nissan truck marketing group I particpated in last month one of the very last questions they asked was...
Hybrid or Diesel? The toyo guys were hybrid majority and the nissan guys were diesel...heck I'd like to make my own fuel from McDonalds and forget about the oil man...just think with the waste in producing my own fuel my wife could make lye soap and sell it.

Now where's that rock?? come on pass the pipe on the left on side.

yeah, i know. but a lot of people buy them, despite not needing 600lb of torque, and partially justify it with the mileage. add VVT for the titan and the engine would be capable enough, when mated with a more substantial rear end, for almost anything 1/2 ton truck buyers, or even some HD buyers might want.

the bottom line is that it comes down to whether were comparing this to the big diesel's, or a possbile future midsize diesel. a midsize would probably give some decent MPG advantage, and *might* not cost too much more, but have little to no power advantage. a big diesel with still give more torque but is pricier and has less of a mileage advantage. regardless, if your driving all city, the diesel, as i understand it would likely never justify the price.

as far as hybrid types are concernced, i just want to see them work out on a truck first. the current gm hybrid doesn't do squat....

anyways, don't peg me as anti diesel, or hybrid for that matter. i just think there is a little hype surrounding them due to gas prices which are definately affecting us all.

Tirque yes, but it's have to be more than a "light duty" Diesel to match the HP we have now. Most HD Diesels don't make our HP, but have LOTS of torque.
