Anyone running this shell on a Pro4x with the big duckbill tailgate cap? Maybe that big tailgate cap comes on other models, I don't know.
Anyways, not a big fan of how the topper window in the back intersects with the cap. Looking for ideas. Is there a smaller cap I can get for the tailgate?
The CX model just comes with a small flexible flap that just bends to form a seal against dust, water, etc. But that area is a huge dust collector and I run a lot of dusty roads. Gets really abrasive with the dust and I don't see that flap lasting long.
It would be helpful to post a pic of the topper you're asking about. For myself, I purchased an older Leer 122 wedgy shell to move some air up and around my 24' enclosed trailer.

Now I understand what you meant by a "duckbill cap". But aero wise, I doubt it will make much difference. The airblow around the truck and topper will always create a low pressure area behind the rear window. That won't change no matter what kind of tailgate flap you have. The dust seal on the back of the window is probably the best and most durable solution for now.
Did you get anywhere with ARE? I'm experiencing the same situation with ARE. I want the Z series cap and was informed it would have the same rubber strip your showing instead of the plastic cap they make to go over other Brands tailgate caps (or whale tails is what the cap companies keep referring to it as).
I've also tried looking for an aftermarket tailgate cap with a slim design with not luck.
Sorry for the late response. To answer both questions, no, I did not pursue it. It is still just like it is in the pic. Cheesy. Guess it is just not enough of a pain point to do anything else. The little plastic flap rubs on the cap and it will eventually wear out. The design of that cap makes it hard to accommodate a good solution and it was probably a little much of me to expect ARE to provide a better solution.
That area collects a LOT of dust and as a result is very abrasive. It has lasted two years so far and has held up but who knows how much longer it will. If either of you guys comes up with something better let me know.
