Swapped out crappy battery

I put a Stinger 1000 dry cell battery. It's the same as the Odyssey battery which is made by Hawker. It's so tiny compared to my big tow battery but it's more powerful and deep cycle. It's smaller than an optima too.

attached is some pics of it. It has a metal case which I screwed down to the battery mount then slipped the battery into it.

I was thinking of the Stinger 1700 which is 13 inches long but was concerned that it was just a 1/2 inch too big for the engine compartment.

looks nice, i thought deep cycles are not good for cars due to there ability to hold a charge for a long time because of the larger plates. and not good for real quick drawing allot of power quickly due to starting.. but i could be wrong.

looks great though!

old speed - I think regular lead acid deep cycles are what you are speaking of. This is a sealed lead acid so it can go in the trunk or sit on its side if I wanted to. It puts out 1200cca for 5 sec which is plenty for starting. here's the actual manufacturer's link of there version.

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc1200mjt.htm

kartman - the battery couldn't hold a charge. It has died on me for the past 2 months. It all started when I was working on the installation of my stereo. Even though after ~30 mins the door lights will shut off. when I went on vacation for a week (2months ago) it was drained. I thought maybe "normal". So then it died on me last week. 2 days ago I tried jump starting it...no good. so after using my battery charger it started fine. The next day battery was dead again. Pulled out the multimeter 6.5 volts! regular batteries when drained, it will never charge to full capacity.

so I decided on this battery. It's been in there over 24 hours and works great.

the system wasn't installed for 2 months so I didn't have any additional electrical load on it whatsoever. Also do a search and others have had problems too being stranded. non stereo related.

Looks good. I like the metal case and the battery terminals look like they are in the correct positions for connection to the OEM fuse holder without alot of modification. I just replaced the Big Tow battery with an Optima D34M for similar reasons. It seems that the OEM battery won't handle high power aftermarket stereos too well. Several other people here have replaced the OEM battery in connection with stereo installs.

BTW, I sealed all the cables & connections with electrical tape and/or dielectric grease as my battery connections were showing signs of corrosion. Maybe that doesn't happen with sealed batteries?

I just replaced my battery. I wish I had seen this post. I would have bought the Stinger. I got an AC Delco as that is all they had that was sealed with the post setup the truck requires. I have got to start looking here BEFORE I start projects. I changed the battery due to the constant acid issue.

I don't think Sealed batteries have the same corrosion problems. I've had optimas over the years and never had that problem. I was going to get an Optima but couldn't find one w/ the reverse terminals so I ordered this one which I got wholesale. It's so small I think I can put 2 of them in the same area as the old big tow battery but I don't need anything that powerful.

Update: no problems at all on this battery. I was worried it could be the charging system but it's all good. Going to run a couple of the ground wire fixes to see if my engine whine from my amps will disappear.

I upgraded the main ground wire to 0 gage, installed the 4 gage engine tick fix ground, and put in the active tuning ground wire set. In conjunction with the Optima battery, this has killed all traces of engine whine.
