Secure Your Rear Sliding Window...Cheap & Easy Mod
Well since I've read at least two threads on how easy it is to break into our trucks via the rear slider, I came up with an easy fix for anyone interested. A member over at CT, said it took him all of 30 seconds to "break in" to his truck after locking his keys in. This didn't sit too well with me. Granted, if someone wants in bad enough, they'll get in...but I'm not gonna make it that easy for them.
By drilling a hole and installing a simple 1/4" dia ring pin w/ detent, you can prevent the release catch from being manipulated and opened from the outside of the truck. Just leave the pin in place until you need to open the window, at which point, just pull it, open the window and reinsert pin...easy. The pin fits snug and will not fall out or rattle around while driving.
This whole mod takes only a couple minutes...tops.
1.) Drill 1/4" hole in plastic lock release.....drill as close to the outer lock housing (see pic).
2.) Insert 1/4" ring pin. ($2 @ Lowe's)
3.) There is no "3", cuz you're done!

Nice. Didn't think of doing it that way. I bent a rod like an "L" and put it in the bottom channel with the bend facing up so that I can pull it out when needed.
The dowel rods I had on hand were too thick in diameter. So I sctrached around for a substitute and found several unused wooden paint stirrers. I trimmed one to fit, covered it with teflon tape, left a little "tail" on it so I could remove it easily. Fits quite well in the channel.

I was going to go with the dowel rod fix, too, but figured it would be one more thing I'd have to keep in the truck, that I didn't want there. Also thought it might fall out, or rattle around. Plus with the pin, you don't really have to remember to put anything back in place when securing the window...you really can't forget, because you have to pull the pin in order to close the window. I may give the ring pin a couple blasts of black paint...then I don't think you'd hardly notice it.

Even though I have no use for this mod because I have an electric rear window, I think this is a great idea for the others. Again, you come up with ingenious modifications.

Yes, it fits quite well. Snug fit between the rubber.
