Pictures of painted tailgate cover

Finished painting the tailgate bib body color. Now I just need to color sand the piece in a couple of days.

Yes great job painting it! But more pictures on the truck possibly from further away would be nice.

Thanks. I got the paint from Paintscratch.com in a spray can. For plastics you need to use an adhesion promoter (type of primer) to make the paint stick. You can find the Bulldog Ahesion Promoter brand at Walmart.

For prep I used a random orbital sander with 220 grit to knock down the textured surface then I finished it with 600 grit. It is best to clean the surface with a wax and grease remover prior to spraying. From there it's just a couple of coats of the Bulldog followed by the base coat (color) then clear.

Now that looks great, I'll be doing the same soon. I'm going to use Dupont Chromabase with a Chromaclear to match the original finish- I used to be a custom painter so luckily I have the materials and spray equipment handy!

I just used the original one. Took about 2 hours for everything.

Wow! I have an XE and want to do the same thing. I also want to do the door handles, mirrors and rear bumper. I looked for a place that had Galaxy paint online and couldn't find one. I have a compressor and gun, so thinking about just getting a quart.

Your truck looks killer. All very subtle mods that add up to perfection!

I was starting to like the chrome surrounds, but this is a great idea too. Did you paint it all in place, or remove the pieces and do them seperatly?

The site that m95 listed is a good site. I've had good luck in the past with www.color-rite.com too.

m95, is the paint urethane based?
