Cannot believe the lines at the stations! Is it 1973 again?

Holy smokes! I was just out to get groceries and I was amazed to see long, long lines of vehicles snaking into every service station. People are getting carried away with this now.

It's not about whether there is supply....there's plenty here. People are really trying to get topped off before the next price gouge, er.....I mean price increase.

I did not think I would ever see anything like 1973 or 1979 again, but this is comin' purty dern close!

And there is quite a price fluctuation within 10miles I saw the price be anywhere from $2.75 to $3.18

Station across street from work today raised price 5 times today from 2.53 and ended (at least by the time I came home) at 2.99.

I saw a picture of a station in Milwaukie that had regular unleaded at $3.57/gal

the station up the street from me is $2.78 but not even 3 miles up the road they're at $2.40 - I don't get almost a .40c difference in the span of a few miles. I'll just never understand I suppose

Just imagine what we're dealing with down here in Mississippi. I had a one hour wait for gas at the one station in town that had it. You guy are getting ripped because down here where it is scarce, it is not over 3.00 yet. We have police guarding the few that are open for fear of rioting because of people breaking the long lines. In fact there is a confirmed report that I just heard on the news where a man shot his own sister in the head over a bag of ice. It's just really crazy down here right now, I just wish everyone would have a little more patience. Just a little FYI we did resume production at Canton today.

In 1973 I was a junior in high school. I drove a 1965 Impala with a 327 4 barrel carb. I got about 12 mpg and made $1.50/hour, and gas was $1.50/gal.If it was available(which it wasn't). Even with gas a $3.30/gal, I am better off now than I was in 1973. I don't like the price of fuel now, but when I look back to the way things were in 1973, it puts things in perspective. Like I said, I don't like it, but things could be a lot worse.

Skyhammer:
I understand what you are saying.

However, didn't you feel MUCH better off last month when gas was a full dollar cheaper a gallon?

YES!!! Although for the past month I have paying $2.90/gal, now $3.30/gal.Remember I live in Northern Calif. Where gas has been over $2.50 for a year or so.
