dodge has a hemi??

reading on this site i was under the impression that the dodge ram 1500 has a "hemi" but its not a true hemi.

this is a quote from a guy on another forum i visit: "I currently have a Dodge Ram 1500 QC with the Hemi".

is it a "true hemi" or is it a lower "hemi" or what...

can someone clarify this for me please.

It's a semi-hemi.....of sorts.....our endurance...is also kind of a semi-hemi. Dodge does not have it's monster of the old days that's for sure.....for the most part it's the magnum engine with a different head reseambling the hemi I do beleive.

The term "hemi" comes from the fact that the engines had hemispherical cylinder heads. The new "hemi" only has semi hemispherical heads. If you call this engine a "hemi" you have to call most of Toyotas engines "hemi" for they too hace semi hemispherical heads. This was discussed long ago, but know you know.....and knowing is half the battle G-I-Jooooooooooooooooooooe!

IMO they just stuck the Hemi badges on the Dodge trucks to help boost sales!

"Hemi" is just the shape of the combustion chamber (head and piston) using 2 valves per cylinder which is suppose to combust more efficiently due to the lack of cool spots.

On the other hand, the Endurance is a modern day engine using a pent roof design with 4 valves per cylinder technology with overhead camshafts.

4 valve heads flow way more than the 2 valve variety and are more efficient.

Chrysler introduced a modern Hemi in 2002. This engine is not a true hemispherical head engine; it has a polyspherical combustion chamber, but retains the Hemi's traditional inline perpendicular valves. This engine replaced Chrysler's large LA family of engines, particularly the Magnum 5.9, in the early 2000s. It is available in two sizes; 5.7 and 6.1 liters. Some versions utilise a variable displacement technology called the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) to improve fuel economy.
