Remote Start/Security Wiring

Hi All!

I have another post where I'm installing a stereo and upgrading the security with a CodeAlarm CA-640 with remote start. I thought I'd generate this one as a separate thread, as I promised I'd provide the color codes for the wires I used. I'm also providing the page #'s from the service manual I used as reference. Tip: Get the manual. It'll minimize grief!

Disclaimer: Security and RS are different and may use different wires. I also found a discrepency regarding two of the wires (more on that in the list). Finally, the wires I used worked for me in terms of how I wanted my system to operate. Your requirements may be different.

Oh, and there are some differences between KC and CC wiring. Mine was for a KC SE (no seat memory or VDC)

Here's what I used: (Desc/Wire color/Service manual page#/comments)

--Door Trigger (LH) / White/Green / BL-98 / Note #1
--Door Trigger (RH) / Red/Blue / BL-99 / Note #1
--Horn / Red/White / WW-37 / Note #2
--Parking Lamps / Red/Blue / LT-108 / Positive
--Defogger / Grey/White / GW-101 / Note #3
--IG1 (ignition1) / Black/Red / Pg-13
--IG2 (ignition2) / Red / PG-12
--Start / Brown / SC-11 / Note #4
--Start#2 / Blue/Green / PG-15 / Note #5
--Accessory / Violet / PG11
--Battery / Green / PG-11
--Brake Switch / Red/Black / LT-99 / Positive Trigger
--Neutral Safety SW /Black/Red / SC-11 / Note #6
--Tach /NOT Black or White/Blue / EC-601 /Note #7
--Door Lock /Blue / BL-24
--Door Unlock /Red / BL-24
--Cargo Lamp / Pink/Blue / Lt-141

Notes:
1. Discrepancies: Manual says LH Door wire is Sky Blue, but wasn't in my truck. RH Door trigger went to pin 9 of BCM (but was correct colour)

2. Had to cut Green/White (BL-102) wire to keep BCM from interfering with aftermarket system.

3. Relay required. Power this wire with +12v. Can't use switch output. Since I have a KC, this is only for the mirrors.

4. If you are using a security system, you'll probably need to cut this wire to use the starter-kill feature.

5. As far as I can see, this is only for the automatic power seats. I tried it without, and it works, so I didn't bother. If you have an LE with seat memory, you may need to feed this wire. Use a relay and feed it separately.

6. Couldn't get this to work properly. The remote starter would not see either +ve or -ve from this wire. I set my RS for -ve trigger, and tied it to ground. Chance of me NOT having it in park when I'm not in it is zero. Truck won't start if it's not in park or neutral anyways.

7. I used Yellow/Red (EC-599), but any of the other individual coil wires from the ECM should work.

Hope these help!

If you do not energize the 2nd starter wire the truck will not start when cold... Hence the term cold start wire.

I checked over all of my wiring diagrams, and can find no other cct tied to this wire, other than the automatic seats. This wire is used by the BCM to stop the autoadjustment of seats while the vehicle is starting.

I sell Crimestopper alarm remote start combos with the wires premarked and include a color and location chart. Should've checked. I make it EZ

I know I've asked in other threads before but have gotten some conflicting reports, but I would like to know if you can retain the memory seat features with an alarm.

Finding the wires wasn't too bad. The CodeAlarm manual was lousy. The bigger challenge was figuring out what each wire on the alarm did, and when.

I have an SE, so I can't say too much about the seat memory. I do know the BCM uses the OEM remotes to determine which settings to use.

With enough time/money/effort there's always a way, but in this case, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.
