Red face Keeping Titan despite Gas price

Just a quick line to say fuel prices are around $3.50 a gallon and raising at the minute, but will keep my Titan. I don't know what my pain threshold is for fuel prices, plus my Titan is only 1 year old (8/04) and trade-in wouldn't be worth while......

Is anyone else thinking the same thoughts about their Titan and fuel prices.????????

This is what I think of the energy companies....

YEa,
Dealers don't want to give you anything on trade and it's impossible to sell them out right due to gas prices. It's funny how dealer's want top dollars on new titan.

Keeping the Titan

I'm in a luckier spot than most as my commute is 4 miles to work. Right now, I'm averaging 15 mpg city.

However, there's a glut on the market with trucks/suv's and if you trade in, you'd be taking a loss so the question becomes, what kind of a loss are you willing to take?

If say for example, you're willing to lose $3k-would that be worth looking into getting a used car to tied you over?

Just a thought.

I parked mine for the time being...driving the old Escort isn't all that bad and it's dirt cheap. I think market value on that car is about $2k so getting something used is pretty easy.

Definitely keeping mine. I feel very fortunate to have a company vehicle. My 04 Titan only has 4000 miles on it, and half of those are in thousand+ mile vacation trips.
My E250 work van cost's 85 bucks to fill, and I'm doing that at least once a week.

Even if it wasn't for the company vehicle, I have a young kid, and the size/safety of the Titan is worth more to me than the money I'd save driving some crap-box econo car.
Gas prices near me are starting to drop back off a little. They were $3.69 when all the lunatics were waiting in line to fill up, they've dropped back to $3.14 now with no lines.

I am in the same boat as Kronos here. I only commute now about 4 miles each way and actually I work in a state office and they are building an new office building "downtown" into which we are moving in November this year. The new bldg is about 1.5 miles from my home and no hills and few stop signs. So I will be keeping the Titan. Otherwise I will also have to get rid of the camper and that is not really an option.

It has really made me think. I really do love my Titan, my first truck. I have had no problems w/him what so ever. I made a trip back from Mcdonough, GA to Manteno, IL and avg. about 16 mpg for 3 fillups. It cost me about $70 to fill up in southern IL. Gas was about $3.19 a gallon down there on Thursday. Up here it is now $2.99 a gallon as of yesterday. This truck really kills me on long trips. I know that others including the fine members of this site told me to keep the Titan and buy a Honda Civic beater or something. I just can't justify buying a third vehicle and letting the Titan sit while paying $450 amonth for the next 5 1/2 years left on the loan. I'm going to decide pretty quick whether to trade him in or just shut up and deal w/the gas prices and just keep my Titan. It is a hard decision I feel I have to make one way or another. I do feel gas will not go down anytime soon. It may even go up some more before stablizing a bit. Just my $70 worth. : )

If I wasnt in over my head I would...

Crazy how dealers are running $7,000 off MSRP! I only got 3 off, and after a year of $500 payments, I owe about what you can buy one for...

<------ Starting to look really good to me. 2006 Honda Civic SI - 200hp, 6-speed, LSD, suede seating, and navi for about $22,000...

For now, the Titan is sitting in the garage collecting dust. $30,000 truck in the garage while I drive a $750 Honda Civic, no airbags, no abs, no traction control, no a/c, etc, etc. Sickening...

BTW, my commute is 42miles round trip, 20 times a month...

I am also lucky I have the 4 mile drive to work and with the wifes car I fill up only every 3 weeks or so . Was considering getting a motorcycle but now rethinking, gas around here is in the 2.85 range so its not as bad as it could be. But gas prices sure have put the purchase of a boat on hold. Not sure if I could argue another toy into the garage yet . But if gas went up significantly I might do the lease of a honda or something but still won't sell my truck

I'm keeping mine. Let's keep in mind that these prices won't last forever. Round trip to and from my job is 42 miles. Round trip for my wife's job is 8 miles. She drives the Titan to work (only!) and I drive her Maxima to my job. I'll just have to live with that until the gas prices return to normal.
