05 Brakes how to tell?

I know the brake issue has been done to death here but I was wondering if anyone had any better pictures of the upgraded brakes than whats on the sticky. I picked up my 05 SE, BT, CC, 4X4 last thursday, the build date was 7/05. I assumed I had the new brakes on it, however comparing the pictures I have seen to whats on my truck I am almost positive I have the old brakes. I have 400 miles on the truck now and I have tons of brake dust. Any info you can give me that would help me determine by looking at them which version I have.

Thanks

Maybe someone else here can be a bit more specific for you but, if you have lots of brake dust, you have the old brakes. I had the new brakes put on my 04 a few weeks ago and I've had almost NO brake dust at all!

I am not sure if I can word this to make sense but I will try. The "bad" rotors have the grooves only in a circular design like a record would. The new rotors have that design as well of course, but also have a design running across the rotor so it would look like a record with scratches all around it. Man what a pretty elementary answer huh That's the best way I could word it to be pictured without a camera though.

P.s. If you have significant brake dust after three days of normal driving you have the old brakes.

I have an 05 that was built on 12/04 and I know that I have the old brakes. I guess you will really know when you get the brake judder at around 3000 or 4000 miles of use, which is when I started to notice, besides visually comparing the old brakes to the new ones.

so if my '05 CC has the old brakes, I can get the new brakes for free of charge as a brake recall??

As I understand it, not as a "recall' but as a warranty issue.

Yes, for free.

My dealer told me that all Titan owners who bring it in for brakes get a rental car for free also.

I guess I am a part of the old brake design (build date 04/05), but I do not have the "judder" and I am at 7000 miles. However, I do have a butt load of brake dust on my rims. I do hope that if the judder happens, it happens soon so I can get in line for the fix.

I wouldn't call them 05 brake since some 05 have the older version.

brakes

I guess even though my build date was 7/05 I still have the old brakes. The picture you show of the old brakes is hard to compare not being on the truck. Mine have about 3 inches of rotor then a half inch dip to the hub. I have 500 miles on the truck now, and I actually have brake dust all over the sides of my truck doors, rear bumper, just everywear. I went to the dealer today and asked if he could tell me which rotors I had, he said there is no way to tell, and said even if I did have the new rotors the brake dust will still be very bad as it is on all these trucks??? He told me to wait till about 4000 miles and call in and tell them I have the judder and they will just put the new kit on if it doesnt already have it, they have an abundance of them in stock. I sure hope I have the old rotors with all the dust I have. If these are the new ones, I gotta get some aftermarket to replace. Do the new rotors have the little gap/dip in them before they meet the hubs?

Trucks built after 7-27-2005 will have factory installed parts anything before that will not.
VIN breakdown for trucks without factory installed up-dated brake kit.
4x2 before 1N6*AO*5N579505
4X4 before 1N6*A0*5N579508
New rotors have a cross machine cut look and indent at base of rotors.

"The New brakes" cut the dust down to nearly nothing, it has to do with the pads mainly.

brakes

Thanks for the info, is there a way to get the dealer to change/upgrade the pads to match the good rotors? This amount of dust is just ridiculous...
