Anyone use tire chains on their Titan?

Last winter I was forced to buy a set of Tire chains that are too bulky for my Titan. I am scared to use them on my front tires because of clearance issues, mainly the brake lines. I am looking for something slightly heavier than the wire style tire chains. The chains I have are equiped with crosslinks as heavy as would be used on a Kenworth. Any Advice would be appreciated.

I have chains but I haven't had any issues with brake line clearance? I have 285-70 r17s. They should fit snug to the tire (I use the stretch bands to keep the fit tight.)

Are you using 5.5 mm or 7.1 mm chains?

If you're concerned, use cables on the front. That would still be a big improvement if you needed them.

Thanks Mike.
I have the 18" wheels but can't remember the size of the winter tires.

Chains are illegal here in Michigan.

I agree not much clearance. If you have 4 WD you can use M/S rated tires without chains in CA. Not much help.

A big part of my clearance issues are probably caused by the short sidewall on the crappy studless winter tires I was forced to buy last fall. They were the only 18" winter I could find. Partially my own fault for waiting until the snow had already fallen.

For the most part I would only use them once off the highway. I live a few miles out of our city limits.Last winter after a few days of rain it was so icy the sand trucks wouldn't go on the roads.

I found a website with what looks to be the same chains http://www.tirechain.com/TRUCK-SUV-CHAINS.HTM
check out the V-bar chains.

Still Thinkin,

That's where I bought mine-the tensioners are a must!

Note: Not over 30mph...

BTW: It is not illegal to use tire chains in Michigan.
(MCL 257.710 of the Michigan Vehicle Code covers the use of tire chains, and states that a person may "use a tire chain of reasonable proportion upon a vehicle when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other condition tending to cause a vehicle to skid." If used, the chain must not come in contact with the surface of the roadway.

Long haul truckers are not generally supposed to use them although that is open to interpretation.

Have fun picking 'em out!
