Brakes, luck, and balls

Here's a little story for you. I'm taking a weeks vacation out in northern New Mexico because I flat towed my jeep out there to get some engine work done. (just over a thousand miles, one way) Anyway, my trans oil cooler line starts leaking at the radiator, again, and my oil pressure gauge is pegged high, again - both repaired about 5K miles back. OK, I take the Titan into a Nissan dealear in Farmington New Mexico to get things checked out and they say I'm ok for the drive back home. So I take the Titan in to my local dealer and they also determine that my brakes are warped, again. They say they called Nissan's "warranty help desk" and were told that they could not touch the brakes because of my CST lift. I said that the truck was already lifted the first time time the rotors were turned. They said that they paid for it, not Nissan, the first time, to "keep me happy". (Now, for reasons that still don't understand, the service writer starts treating me like I have a contagous disease...) They order the trans cooler line and the oil pressure device and tell me that I have to call Nissan about the brakes, "we will do whatever Nissan says they will pay us for"... and that if they did fix the brakes, there would be an unknown wait time for the parts. I was debating whether or not to leave the truck there but finally decided to take it home.

I called Nissan and opened a case file and was told that I would be contacted with 24 hours with a decision. Big surprise, no call for a week. So I call again and was able to talk with a regional somthing-or-other person who was going to approve the brake fix because this is a "known problem", and bone stock Titans have had problems also (Well... no $hit, sherlock!) Then He says, "oh, by the way you can't go back to your dealer because they had an accident - their service department burned down". I started thinking that I sure am glad I decided to take my truck home, and that I actually could prove where I was so they didn't think I was an arsonist.

So I make an appointment with another dealership. When I tell them the story of what the original dealer did, he just laughs and says "just bring it in here and we'll get you taken care of", and, he adds " we have two new lifted Titans on the lot right now, there is no reason for them (the original dealer) to do what they did.

Everything got fixed on my first trip in, with no wait for 'new and improved' brake parts. In and out in 6 hours.

Now the 'balls' part: My original dealer calls me and asked how things went with Nissan and they look forward to seeing me again I described how dealer #2 handled the situation and it was like she didn't even hear me, she said that "if there was anything that she could do for me to let her know."
So, I'm thinking, how about yourself.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share my little adventure with you.

I appreciate how some dealerships just take the issue at hand and resolve it right then and there. I hate dealerships who won't take warranty issues because of the extra man power and paperwork required to get things straight. They can go *@#% themselves.

IMO, I think it's more likely the service advisor with attitude problem or may be lack of trainning, I'd reported him/her to his/her supervisor and let them aware of the lack of trainning/communicating of their service staffs, my point is one jacka$$ employee doesn't mean the whole dealership is bad.

The person who called you probably just an "outsider" third party who do only "follow up" then reported back to the company, she may reported your incident to the same service writer that you originally spoke to(for followe up purposes) and that service writer guy could "accidently" dropped the report to his trash can 'cause he doesn't wanted his boss find out. Just a though.

Ditto Sea rider one lousy employee shouldn't tarnish the dealers Rep. I have however in my 44 years percieved a general shift from the home town attitudes of hi how r ya how may we help to a new and improved hi where the hell did u come from and how can we make u go back philosophy. I'm not saying all stealerships are like that but it seems that a growing number of large businesses in general have somehow lost the urge to go above and beyond to keep a customer but willing to take a survey after the fact and expect to make ammends.

It's funny how they would even say thing like the lift would void warranty when most dealers I see are starting to sell brand new Titan with lift package on them. Your right about telling the dealer to themself.

SeaRider, it was the same service writer that called me back; and her desk is the other half of the service managers office. Dealer #2 said, and I quote, 'some dealerships are still afraid of working on modified vehicles". Translation - we don't have the experience to do so.

PapaD, I agree completly. I'm soooo tired of people telling me what they can't do. Wouldn't to be refreshing to hear what they can do for you?

When all is said and done, I shouldn't be put in a position where I should cut them some slack for their lack of knowledge. I had no problem with how I was treated up to the point where they refused to offer me any information. For all I know they may have let me leave with an unsafe truck. I had to ask specificly if the brakes were warped again and after the 3rd time they finally said yes. All issues aside, I just don't understand why she would act like that.

Anyway, I'm happy now and all is well with the world.
