Transmission Problem OH NO!!!

...on my fathers brand new 2005 Ford F-150!

Fudge...is all I have to say. First off, let me say that the F-150 is a very nice truck. I actually recommended this truck to my father and convinced him to purchase it over the Titan (for the price). I'll make a separate post on why I like the F-150 as soon as I have a little more time.

Anyways, we took the truck on a 1500 mile trip this past weekend and at the beginning of the trip I noticed a slight clunk in the tranny...nothing big just very small clunk from a dead stop. By the time we got home we realized this was a serious problem.

I looked around on the Ford fourms and it seems like a good amount of people with 2005's are experiencing this same exact problem. From what I have read, there isn't a confirmed fix for this problem as of yet but I'm not sure. This does not look good, but time will tell what happens when I bring the truck back to the dealer on Thurs.

Wow, surprised at how much larger the Ford looks than the Titan.

Nah, the F150 is "aerodynamically challenged".

Considering that Furd isn't known for the strength of there drivetrains it is no surprise that the trans is failing. I hope your father has good luck it getting it fixed correctly....he could be in for an adventure.....and it's all your fault!

Don't feel bad I've had three new trucks in the last year and a half and one of them was an f-150. Ford did make a nice truck and it's a shame your dads having a problem but if your deal was anything like mine, the Ford was by far the price winner. Hope it works out for the best. Now somebody slap some sense into me for sayin that Ford makes a nice truck.
BTW the ford truck is large but not that large, I have extensive photographic knowledge and you might be surprised at what you can make look larger with the right lens.

the main reason i didnt want an F150 when i went shopping for my truck, was because my previous ride was a ford taurus. Now for those of you who dont know, WORST TRANSMISSION EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

My tranny started to overheat towing up a hill. I actually had to take it into manual shifting to get it to drop in temp.

Well if you had to drop it down into fourth gear that's the one you should have had it in already.

yup.. I was towing a 6,500lb 26' long trailer up a 8 mile winding grade. The automatic transmition was wanting to put it into 3rd @ 2,800 RPM. So I kicked it down manually to get the RPM back up to 3,500 RPM to cool it down.

It was in tow mode.. FYI, but in the auto setting, not manual. When in tow mode it will not let it go into overdrive 5th, but it should also be keeping the RPMs up. Or atleast thats my understanding of why you put the tow mode button on.

I notice the temp in the transmition temp gauge was pushing the hot mark. Thats what I menat by "over heating"

It seems to slip every once and a while. Usually to about 2000rpm and then it catches up. It most often happens after sitting in traffic. Other times it seems like it is reluctant to down shift when it should.
What is yours doing?
