Adding Stearing Wheel Audio Controls

Is there anyway to add the audio controls to an SE model truck with the in-dash 6 disk changer (not RF?)

That is one feature I wish I had on my truck. Was wondering if it was just a matter of ordering the parts?

Steering Wheel Assembly

I have a 2004 KC SE with the 6-Disc (in dash) Audio and I have the steering wheel audio controls. I have the Popular Package with split bench seats.

I thought the steering wheel controls were incuded with the 6-disc audio system. Apparently not?????

My guess is that the wiring harness isn't there if the controls weren't factory equipment. I'm sure one of the stereo gurus should be around in a moment to give a better answer.

This was a option with the pop package. It may be quite expensive to add. May want to get a head unit with a remote instead.

I would think that it would be the same head unit as the pop package and just a snap in component. Maybe parts #4 / #6 from:
Audio Controls

Has nobody done this?

Interesting, may have to check for wiring on my XE with pop. pkg. I know mine is wired for fog lights so maybe this too. Switch is only $21 + shipping. Hmmm, The old wheels are turning....

If I had to guess you would need at least both #4 and #6, which would be more like $81 + s/h. Still may be worth it...

From what I understand, they are prewired.

Audio Controls For Steering Wheel

Besides part #4 on that link is one piece, so it would have to be there if you had cruise control.

I went ahead and ordered it.

Okay, I've already gone down this path.. The wiring is absolutely there. It is a bit of a beeeaatch to get the steering wheel apart. I ordered the Radio Control Cover from nissanpartscheap.com I think for about $17.. And all I got in the mail was a lousy PLASTIC Cover , like is already there... The description is wrong I do believe. I think if the controls where on there, it would be a lot more expensive, just look at the price for the power steering controls. I also went to the Nissan Dealership, and well, as far as the parts guy could tell, those controls are not available seperate from the steering wheel. You have to buy the whole damn wheel. Which is like close to $600 ( I think)

I've been too busy to persue this any further, but if you order that part, make sure you get them to CONFIRM that it is indeed controls and not just a damn cover.

Now even though the wiring is already there, THere is a chance it won't work. As it may not be enabled at the other end. but I bet about 80% it is!

I think this is the part I ordered: (I will check my paperwork this weekend for the partnumber)

Hi,
I had to have my controls replaced, and here's what I learned: the cruise and radio switches are on the same hunk of plastic. The airbag must be removed. Probably won't want to do this yourself. I wouldn't.
They can't replace the sides(cruise/audio) separately, which means you will be paying a lot more than you might expect. I don't think you need a new steering wheel, provided you already have an SE (leather covered wheel) I could foresee where an XE wheel won't be able to have the audio controls added since it was never designed to.

If you have the cruise control, you have the wiring harness plugs for the audio controls. Problem is, they only sell the audio controls with a complete steering wheel, not seperately. (Altough, someone please prove me wrong! )
I think the wiring harness should even be in the XE models, at least through the steering column. I guess the XE's would have to add that Audio controller/Cruise Controller split thingy, that looks to be about $60. But still sort of a moot point. I suppose there are always the junk yards.

Here is what I found. The part looks like it's $60. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=4&catalogid=2 Now as far as installing it, that is another question all together. If I get time I will lookin the manual to see what needs to be done. If the airbag needs to be removed I wouldn't want to do it myself.

That looks like it might work. The manual refers to a special tool that you will need.
