Test Drove a F-150 today - Not Impressed

New guy here.....

Well I've kinda been looking to get a new truck. I currently have an 01 Dakota 4x4 truck and it's starting to kinda fall apart, go figure. Well a buddy of mine works for Galpine Ford out here in Cali, and we were talking and the deals now are just amazing. Well I test drove a 4x4 5.4 liter crew cab and the thing seemed gutless, not to bash the thing, but my Dakota would smoke that truck.

So I was nice said I'll think about it, and on my way home I started to remember, damn take a look at those Titans those are bad ***.. I had a 97 4x4 Nissan pickup, the one with the 4 banger with 8 plugs. I remember beating the living hell out of that truck in the desert, going up blow sand at Ocitello Wells (Or however it's spelled) in reverse and people freaking out at me saying I was a nut. The engine and tranny were bullet proof, the only thing that was lousy was the body, god damn Nissan made the body out of used beer cans. The only other thing that sucked at the time was that NO ONE made a lift for the 4x4's at the time.

So I did some research when I got home and found this site, and HOLY CRAP. The Titans with the PRG lifts that Greg put together are just beautiful, not to mention FUNCTIONAL...

Gonna go test drive one tomorrow... And BTW if anyone has any questions on Porsches or street bikes (Not Harley's) feel free to ask me...

Mark

That's right

You go man! You will not regret your decision to buy a Titan. In fact, get on Ebay and see the kinds of accessories you can get. Take a look at how absolutely BADASS!!! the truck looks once you get it. I go out and look at mine sometimes and just say "Damn!"

The thing leaves everything in it's class behind.

In fact the only place an F-150 belongs is in your rearview mirror with dust all around it.

Thanks for the welcome guys. The only thing I really need to do is some research on the FFV and see how available it is in Los Angeles. Looks like a great option, not just for the environment, but with gas prices the way they are looks like a it could be a great money saver....

I wouldn't base my purchase decision on the FFV. Here in Georgia, we don't have a single station that sells it, and the few in SC that do charge almost the same price as 97 Octane. Also heard that the cost difference doesn't make up for the fuel mileage you suffer using the E85.

The way you ended up looking at the Titan is identical to me.... I heard they upped the HP to 300 from 260 and was ready to upgrade my 99 F150.... after driving it, something just didn't add up... much to the dismay of the Ford dealer, there was a Nissan showroom next door. And here I am a year later and couldn't be happier.

I owned a 94 S10, 96 S10, and 00 Silverado. When I decided it was time for a new Truck I decided it was time for a Change. I looked at all Full Size Pickup Trucks. I liked the Ford but found it lacked power. I liked the power of the Dodge but the interior didn't compare to the Ford, I was tempted to just get another Chevy being that they had been very good truck for me when someone mentions I should go check out the Toyota and Titan. I really liked the look of the Toyota but it was realy down on power. Then went drive the Nissan and it basically had all I was looking for in a Truck. The only thing I regret now is I wish I would have got the 4x4. I saw a Red Brawn Titan yesterday with a lift kit and I think it was 20 inch wheels and some 35" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Tires. That was one sweet Truck!

I think the ford would be the only real competition if they beef up the powerplant. it's a nice design. but if the titan can still outperform, it's the better option for sure. i have no regrets in going with the titan over the ford.

Wow, another guy who doesn't despise all non nissans.

For me it was a tough decision between the F-150 and the Nissan.
Frankly, a beefier power plant and I'd be browsing an F-150 forum right now :P

Then again, Fords cars/trucks have been fairly gutless for a while so I'm not sure they'll ever get that F150 moving fast enough for my liking. (lightning doesn't count :P_

You will not go wrong looking around at the competitions offerings. That defines you as an aware shopper! BUT, if this truck doesn't turn on some sort of male hormone in you... then you might want to check your pulse! Ford, GM, Dodge recalls account for more than all the production TITANS that have been built since day one. The Toyota recall notwithstanding (power steering). I have a 2004 KC se (love the 166 degree rear door). Hate when the auto up window DOESN'T go up, had the brake problem fixed. I do not complain about the fuel consumption, even when I'm paying over $1.26 cdn per litre.
Every time I hop in this truck.... I smile 'cause this is one beauty truck EHH!!

I have no regrets buying the Titan (even with being a Chevy fan for lots of years - had to get the 8.1 litre engine in order to match the power of the Titan and that didn't thrill me much). Anyways with almost 17,000 km, I'm getting about 21.0 mpg (Cdn) highway driving and gas prices are coming down - only $1.049 per litre (Cdn)
The Titan is an awesome puller and that's why I bought it to pull my travel trailer

The Titan was my long shot, and I ended up taking it home. It doesn't fail to disappoint!

Said this before, but to repeat...I liked the looks (exterior) of the Fslow50, and the interior was just okay...overrated in my opinion. Over all I just dont think of the two the Ford can compare to the Titan...it is just a nicer truck.

I dont know, dad had a ford that was bada$$, still have my Titan. Stock the engines dont compare in speed, but as for being a truck pulling etc they are very similar with a slight edge for the Ford,
As for the interior "to each his own" you really wast your time arguing over that its all personal. I mylself found the Ford and Nissan interior vastly superior to Dodge or Chevy.
Different strokes for DIfferent folks.
The one fitty sure is a sweet looking truck hope, cant wait for nissan to do a little changing to the face of the truck, the more i look at it i dont like the chevy like cat eyes, but its a gorgeous truck.

My impressions of the new 150 are in line with many others here I thought the int layout was almost identicle which I like both alot. They are both alot better than Chevy and Dodge IMHO I like the ford choice of materials better, but the titan seam much more comfortable. The Ford had a very smooth ride. Thats where it ends for me the 5.6 has better power and I would bet my last dollar its better made as well, but the real diff. comes in the tranny the Ford tranny sucks IMO it was always searching for a gear instead of puttin that "?300" hp to the ground. I like the looks of the Ford but I love the looks of the titan ecp the grill its the attitude of the truck for me mean and nasty. The Chevy does nothing for me looks wise, I got sick of the look of the dodge fast, and the Toy looks well plain jane like everything that they make.
