-17F this morning

Got up this morning to go to work and it was -17F this morning. Good thing I bought a magnetic Oil pan heater and had it plugged in all night. The Titan was not happy to get fired up this morning BRRRRRR!!

Uprev, Uprev, Uprev,.........auto starter, auto starter, auto starter. The auto starter would of won this Morning. Parts of the base was -20. I had MAF readings as low as -6.

I'm all for global warming, bring it on.

Thanks HVT. I will walk in the Colonel's office tomorrow with your sentiments and see how it goes. Don't think I want to go to Hawaii, kinda ghetto for me. How about Europe. That way I can get uprev and some 150mph runs on the autobahn.

Re: -17F this morning

I was in N. Dakota before Christmas for a college hockey game and it hit -27F, my truck doesn't like that cold... The wiper motor screams and the tire sensor goes off every time I start the truck. A magnetic oil pan heater, interesting...that help with turning over the engine?

Sounds like that cold air is on it's way here... They are calling for -24F for lows in Northern MN, where I'll be snowmobiling this coming weekend. brrrr.

Re: -17F this morning

The oil pan heater is kinda like a miniature curling iron with flat base. It's 180 watts. It fits perfectly on the side of the oil pan and skid plate. I paid 21 bucks for it. Better than the 350 dollars the dealer wants for the engine block heater. I would rather have warm oil than warm antifreeze for cold starts.

On my wifes car I put a oil pan heater pad on that had 3m tape on it and I sealed the edges with silicone RTV. Works perfect and gets hot to the touch.

We got 2 signed up for global warming Who else?

Re: -17F this morning

Are all you folks who live in Alaska or Minnisota in the military? If so, I can understand you being there. If not...why would anyone live where it gets so darn cold? Must be some beautiful country!
And why wouldn't everyone there have a nice warm garage?! You need to all go on Oprah!..."YOU GETTA GARAGE, YOU GETTA GARAGE"!

The long-a$$ winters are well worth it when the summer hits and we have 21 hours of daylight and the best river (or ocean) fishing in the world...Not to mention some of the best backcountry snowmobiling and snowboarding anywhere.

On top of all that, we have only 650,000 people living in a state 2.5X bigger than Texas...

Not in the military either...born in Canada's Yukon Territory, lived in AK since I was 10 years old

Re: -17F this morning

Sound good to me. Alaska is high on my list of places to see. I would rather live in Alaska than Cali any day. I don't even want to go and see LA, the weather is not worth it. Maybe north Cali.

Re: -17F this morning

I used to live in Eagle River myself. Drove a Subaru Outback XT at the time with block heater, remote start and heated seats. That made it all nice. Had a F150 as well. AK is the Great-Land! I will be moving back one day when I don't have to work all the time. Being a land surveyor a fellow gets to be one with the weather (and mosquitoes). Personally I can deal with cold, it's the 90+ degrees in the lower 48 that kills me. Lock myself in the house with the A/C on!

HVT, doesn't it get that cold in New York? I assume that is where you are from.
