There is a filter recharger kit from K&N that include a spray to clean it and a spray to re oil it and directions. You should be able to buy the kit anywhere K&N filters are sold. Hope this helps.

Spray with a garden hose from the inside out. Use the cleaning agent in the kit and scrub with a brush if necessary. Make sure to re-oil it after it dries or it won't properly catch the dirt.

There is recharging the filter and cleaning the filter. I use a fine bristle brush for cleaning. It cleans off all the bugs, loose dirt, etc. I leave the recharge kit for when the filter starts to get dark from dirt, debris, and oil.

I just performed the first cleaning at 25,000 miles(brush only). I use the truck mostly for street use and hunting in the fall. I think the recharge kit gets used more than it should. Too much oil fouling the MAF sensor.

As the recharge instructions state, "Service every 50,000 - 100,000 miles on street driven applications. Service more often in off-road or heavy dust conditions or when the air filter reaches 18" of restrictions. Let the dirt "build up" work for you; it will not hurt the performance and actually help filter the air."

I actually have two filters. That way I can just swap them out and clean/recharge them when I'm ready and still drive the truck.

Never used compressed air to clean or dry a K&N or other gauze type of air cleaner as it will thin the material or pierce through it making it ineffective and a non-warrantable cause of failure.

Don't use a hair drier either, it can cause the cotton gauze to shrink.

Also, do not over saturate the filter with oil from the K&N kit. The excess oil may mess with the MAF sensor.

I actually like to use a very soft brissled tooth brush while washing and cleaning my filter, to be able to gently brush out any debris in the grooves that won't easily come out. This doesn't hurt the filter, as long as you use a soft brush, nothing harsh.
This makes cleaning much easier. I too have a second filter, which makes a filter change quick and easy
