got a question for you guys.. will people still be able to buy the truck for a cheap price once the clearance is over? i know that the manufacturer is the one that deals the rebate, so getting that price after the sale is over would probably be harder right? it'll probably go down to a decent price, but not as good as it would right now.. just askin 'cause i'm planning on getting it before the 30th, BUT you may never know?
Clearance prices with Nissan were driven by employee pricing by the big three - gm says it is is ending that soon... everyone will follow as they are the price maker in this whole price war...
Employee pricng for GM was supposed to end July 31, 2005. For some odd reason they have extended it to 9/30/05. They will probably be feeding people this BS until March 29, 2009. Gimmick advertising. You will be able to get a better deal on any 05 Nissan on or around October 5. Don't believe the HYPE.
but the thing is.. the rebate is coming from the manufacturer, not the dealership. so won't the pricing be lower since the dealership can break even in price even if they're supposedly giving me the truck for less than they bought it for? because the dealership isn't the one offering the 2,250 rebate, it's the manufacturer.
i know getting them to break even would be really hard to get to, but i'm just stating that as an example. whatever price the dealership gives you (not including the rebate) that is over how much they bought it for, the dealer still makes their profit. 'cause the manufacturer gives the rebate, not the dealership

Bingo!
You will probably be able to get the Chevy for even lower,or about the same after the "employee pricing" gimmick is over. The employee pricing only makes it easy for people who know little about buying a vehicle. Most informed people already know they can get a Chevy Silverado for invoice, minus the factory rebate. For example back in 2003 they had a $2500-$3000 rebate on the 1/2 ton trucks. You could buy the truck at invoice (which was easily done) and minus the factory rebate,it was as low,or the same as the 2005 "employee discount."
You can throw all the above out the window if its a new body design thats demanding a premium price.....Thats about the only time employee pricing will help out.
I get the GM employee discount and can tell you the old GM employee discount was much better. You worked the deal with buying at invoice, minus the factory rebate, and then you showed them the GM employee discount paperwork (signed by the GM employee)that would give you another 5% discount off the trucks MSRP.

Please don't LAUGH at me. In January a local dealer had 05 GMC 1500 CC for $19995. They had several in stock and I almost bought 1. Now that GM has been blasting this employee pricing, the truck is now $22,950. If you call the dealer and try to negotiate here is what you hear, " I can't even buy this truck for $22,950, I have never seen the truck this low". This is the only reason I know that employee pricing should be called "Bend over it ain't gonna hurt pricing"

I won't laugh.I've bought many GM products under the "old" employee discount program.I finally gave up on them in 1999 after having severe piston slap, and no(well very little) tranny fluid put in from the factory. The tranny stopped shifting on my way home from the dealership! LOL- their fix for that was to just add more fluid to a tranny that had been driven 30 miles with little to no oil.As you can imagine, that didn't go over too well with me. Even my 3 family members that work for GM drive imports.I take that back, one does drive a new Jeep Grand Cherokee
Thats sounds about right. The problem is they spread the discounts out to everybody.Basically, everybody gets a good deal. Before the employee discounts a small minority that was good at negotiating could work an even better deal, plus the trade-in market wasn't flooded with used vehicles, which will destroy your trade-in value....if you have one.
Even though the employee pricing is a gimmick, it has fooled people enough that its forced the other car makers to offer bigger rebates, which is a good thing for the consumer.

really though factory.. invoice minus rebate for a silverado? 'cause i was lookin at an '05 chevy avalanche and i saw one goin for 25flat.. it's invoice is about 30-31 thousand? so that's a major discounted price. would be hard to believe you can get it lower than that without the gm employee pricing. (maybe they're getting a new avalanche model next year?)
There is dealer here in Houston that Advertises 05 Avalanches at $21,995. Too bad when you get there you find out that it is a modified S-10 with a cargo cover. You in Houston Know what dealer I'm talking about.

Yes,I've paid invoice minus rebate for the last 4 trucks that I've owned. The dealer still gets its % of MSRP even if selling it for invoice minus the factory rebate. Its called dealer holdback.Sometimes they even run factory to dealer specials that you'll never know about.
What was the list price of the Avalanche? It must have an MSRP of atleast 35 thousand to be invoicing at 30-31 thousand. If you can get it for $10,000 off MSRP then I would go for it. Thats a heavy discount if they're coming $10,000 off a $35,000 vehicle. Most of the employee pricing discounts are about 7000-8000 off on a Silverado 1/2 ton....it could be even more if its a $40,000 + vehicle.
The employee discounts did help on some vehicles.I know with the 1 ton Chevy Duramax diesel it helped. Before the employee pricing my dealer wasn't discounting them that much in my area. Those things got jerked up really fast after the employee pricing.
Don't get me wrong,Im not saying people aren't getting a good deal with the employee pricing, because you can.Im just saying that when certain vehicles aren't moving very well you can get them at invoice minus the rebate when the employee pricing ISN'T going on,which will put you very close, and in some cases even more than the employee discount prices.I mainly think its more of a gimmick under the 1/2 ton truck more than anything. That truck is really long in the tooth, and it already had some good discounts on it before the employee pricing.
The Avalanche is being redesigned for the 2007 model year. Here CLICK is a pic of it.

Too bad they didn't redesign the ugly out of it...
The problem with the Employee Pricing gimmick is most dealers make it their rock bottom price, completely eliminating any haggling. A good "haggler" could get that price before anyway.
I quite dealering with saleman altogether. Now I go straight to the fleet department.
