Well, the common problems everyone has had finally caught up with me. I took my 2004 Crew Cab in for the brake judder, clunking from rear end, the fabric on the center armrest on the bench seat coming untucked, and the stiching coming apart on the rear seats.
I took it to Billion Nissan in Sioux Falls, SD yesterday. Today they called and told me the rear differential is shot and the front rotors are warped. They said they already put the new rotors on the front and resurfaced the rears, with all new pads all the way around. They ordered a new diff. and it will be in on Tuesday and put in on Wednesday.
As for the interior, they ordered a new armrest for the front, but said the rear seat was from something getting snagged on it. I said O.K. cool. Then the service rep said but we had an interior specialist fix it for free. I thought that was cool. It's not too often you get freebies from the dealer. I didn't even buy the truck from them. I got it from a dealership that lost its affiliation with Nissan.
What is the history with your differential? How many miles? Have you towed anything? Check the fluid level when you got the truck? Ever change the fluid?
Well, I stopped in at the dealership on monday and I was going to try to talk them into getting the 05' and 06' alluminum cover for my truck. The service rep. says "no way". Then a mechanic comes in and listens to the conversation and says "You will get an entire rear end, just have to reuse the wheel speed sensors, and Nissan does not make the old diff covers anymore so yes you will get the finned alum. cover".
As for the towing, I have a 23 foot travel trailer, a 17 foot Ski boat nothing over 5000 pounds. I do have a hitch on the back of the camper but have not piggy backed with the Titan yet. Also, I never did check the fluid level in the diff. The dealership was real quick about ordering a new one so I assume it was toast. They did say I could drive it though? It is a 50 mile drive for me to the dealership though.

Interesting. I am wondering if the majority of the fried differentials were those that were under-filled at the factory, and not checked and filled by the dealer prior to delivery to the customer. I believe that perhaps this is a check list item that the dealers are supposed to check off prior to delivery of the vehicle.
Well the service rep. calls and says we got some bad news. The diff. is on back order and it could take several weeks. I'm thinking this sucks, pay for a truck to sit in the shop, then the rep. says he is going to put a critical care priority on the part. He said it means they will go to the assembly line and pull the part from a new truck. Has anyone ever heard of this?
Anyways he says if Nissan corp. calls me at home I am supposed to act all pissed off about the back ordered part. Sounds kinda fishy to me, especially when I didn't even complain about it taking so long(I have 4 vehicles between me and my wife).
Got the truck back today and it does have the 05' aluminum finned cover with synthetic fluid also. They replaced the entire rear axle. Its a hell of alot quieter now and doesn't clunk when you put it in gear too. The dealer also said no towing for 500 miles and when I do tow I shouldn't go over 50 MPH for the first 500 miles, that sucks.

That is the standard break-in procedure for our trucks per the owners manual. Although I will confess I didn't "exactly" follow them with my truck.
Glad Nissan stepped up to the plate and took care of you.
Good luck in the future!!
