Honda Ridgeline..Say What You Will, But...

I towed my bass boat(3300lbs boat, motor, trailer, gas) this past weekend with no problems at all. This included going over a mountain pass (3200') at the posted speed limit of 65mph. The Ridgeline is truly a sweet riding truck. Am I going to get rid of my Titan. No, at least not yet. I'll wait and see how the Ridgeline works for Bill, my brother, over the next year. The Ridgeline is such a refined ride. It can't be compared to the Titan (or any full size 1/2ton), but for many lifestyles this will sure be a winner.

I looked at them since I liked my Accord and Honda products have refinment and top grade materials unmatched for the price range. I just couldn't get over the price and the looks. That grill is hideous and the truck overall is very Avalanche-esque. I just couldn't see spending 30k on the Honda when I could get the Titan for the same price (actually less)

What lifestyle, an alternative one...?? Never mind.

And for some reason, many don't agree with you on the whole winner thing. I was at the Honda dealership the other day, and they're trying to give those things away. They had markdowns all over those Ridgelines, and that was the only vehicles marked down. Also, I talked to a friend who worked at Honda up till about 3 months ago, and he said the Ridgeline's not selling well at all...

But I do think that b/c it's a Honda, people will buy it. Hey, people are buying the Element, they'll buy anything...

fairhaven,

It doesn't take much to pull a 3300-lb boat. Hook up to a 5000-lb travel trailer and see what you think. That being said, if 3300-lb boats are all you'll pull the Ridgeline may be the right truck (I use that term loosely here) for you, or anyone.

Agreed. It is what it is, a well built "trucklet" that is meant for the Honda owning yuppy type that won't fully commit to a real truck. A minivan can pull 3500 LBS too so....that doesn't impress me. The Ridgeline was an excellent move for Honda and I think it'll do very very well. But as you mentioned, it's not, nor should it be compared to, a fullsize truck. Honda hasn't yet learned that.

Hey man to each thier own. I just cant get over how ugly, small, and useless the Ridgeline bed is. I just cant figure why people would pay money to drive a Mini Cooper, a rolling box Scion 2b what ever the hell it is, a Honda Element, and a Ridgeline amongst others. On a side note, the other day I drove past a Honda dealership and out in the front they had a Ridgeline with a 4-wheeler in the bed. The quad fit inside but with ZERO room on each side and the back wheels were squashed up against the bed extender. It fit but you would have to put your gas for your quad in the cab with ya lol didn't see the point in that advertisement. But hey to each thier own.

lol thats soooo true. It's got more in common with a Van, or a Subaru Baja than a truck lol.

Ridgeline-very good, but not enough MPG savings.

The Ridgeline is an excellent vehicle. It is essentially a Honda Pilot with external carrying capacity for very tall items.
It would work for a good percent of my miles. The main plusses are
1)Very,very nice ride by comparison to any truck.
2)AWD standard-helps in rain, muddy roads, sandy wet roads, ice snow etc.You have to go to 4x4 to get this capability with the Titan(or maybe get very good winter tires for the 4x2)
Downside
1)Tiny bed.I have my doubts about carrying my kinda small motorcycles-83" length. It just wouldn't have worked for our evacuation-we piled a ton of stuff into the 6.5 ft Titan bed-just pile it in and tie it down-no time to get really cute with the loading.
2)There isn't any good way to put a canopy-camper top on the bed.Topping the bed makes it even better as an evac vehicle-pile stuff higher, and in a pinch people and animals can ride in the bed.
3)The MPG-16-21 is really not much better than a 2wd Titan. Our Pilot-17-22 got 24 mpg on the same trip the Titan got 21.4.The Ridgeline will get 1 mpg less than the Pilot-so 23 mpg hy vs 21.4.The city mpg is the same for the Pilot and Titan-12-15mpg.I had hoped the Ridgeline would do better. It needs to be Hybridized!!
4)It is expensive.
Nice vehicle,but less versatile,and more expensive(considering discounts-rebates) than a full sized traditional truck.Luck,Charlie

lol, I will never understand why people get so worked up over things like this. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you do like it, then buy it. Easy as that.

you know, for a while now, i've really been likeing the ridgeline. it's a very verstile piece of truck. i really like the trunk in the bed. as far as pulling that 3300lbs boat, it's no problem for that honda. to be honest, if i was as interested in the ridgeline as am i now before buying the titan, i would of gotten the ridgeline. i don't care what any says about the ridgeline, i'd pick that over the tundra, f150 and chevy. so yeah, i really like the ridge but love my titan. too bad honda doesn't have a V8.

I'm not even going to get into looks...

The Ridgeline is not much of a "truck". The IRS is great and all, but it can't support near the payload of a solid rear. Maximum tow capacity is 5000 lbs, I believe the Frontier is more. No offense, but I wouldn't call it a tow vehicle if many SUVs out there can haul more (X5s, ML500, the like). As for ride quality, I'm sure it's to die for... but most people here bought their truck to tow, not for ride quality. But hey, if all you tow is 3000 lbs and you want a nice smooth ride and great gas mileage, I can't imagine a better car (assuming you can deal with the looks). Honda quality is unmatched.
