So two days ago we had our first 90* day in NH. I get into my T and get the A/C running. 20 minutes later it's still super hot and not blowing cold at all. I can hear the compressor kick on and off with the push of the button. However today I noticed that when the system is running I can hear a Hissing sound coming from the Dash. it's not the blower motor which works fine. As soon as I turn it off the hiss goes away. I'm hoping that this is just a low charge and can be be fixed but now i'm thinking I have a leak inside the dash which will be aweful. Any opinions or history of this type of issue?
Ok if it is hissing for a few seconds, stops, then a little later hisses again, it is the pressure relief valve. If it is hissing nonstop there is some kind of leak or the pressure relief valve is stuck open or the system is building too much pressure so the valve has to stay open.
Got my truck back from the garage, they tested the system, charged it with some dye abd so far no hiss sound abd it gets take cold. So I'll watch over the next week or so and see if it changes. I'm hoping it doesn't. Only cost me $89, I'd like it to stay there..
Well it took a while but the system stopped working again so I definitely have a leak. Didn't have the money or the tinge to take it back to the garage so I stopped at AutoZone and bought a recharge kit. Now that's is blowing cold again, I'll try and get through the summer with it and fix when I have the funds. Took a while so it must be a slow leak.
Pay the diagnostic fee to find the leak. It could be just a hose, or it could be something worse. Knowing what it is will help you plan how to work toward the repair. Otherwise, you're just sticking your head in the sand and eventually will likely incur huge repair bills to solve this where you may be able to prevent them by paying a little now. The stuff they put in with dye in it should make finding the leak easy for them.
Hmm. Place that worked on mine did the dye, found a bad O ring then said since they already put the dye in the system they wouldn't charge labor for future diagnostics. The dye stays in the system and will show them where any leaks are. SO it would be a fix and recharge.
