Getting prepared for Frozen Door Handles...

Well, winter is just around the corner, and I must say that the biggest unfixable problem I've had so far is the freezing door handles. Has there been any fullproof mods that anyone has done to prevent this from occurring. I know that there were many who had this problem last winter, and was just looking to correct the problem before it happens again. Thanks

I've had the problem a couple of times here in Louisiana. When you try to close the door it doesn't latch. When you try to slam it shut, it bounces open.

I think there should be a recall since there is a huge safety issue of driving a truck with the door open.

i believe if you spray wd40 on the latch mech periodically they shouldn't freeze--ie keeps away all the moisture.

this is from many sub 30 BELOW in minnesota eh!

Garage?

First thing that came to my mind. I live in the south, but she's been in snow and ice and whatnot, never had this issue...

It's the cable that operates the latch that freezes up. Can't lube it uless you take the door apart and that doesn't even help some time. I'm willing to bet that I'll be making another visit to the service dept. for the same problem this winter. Made two visits last year.

Can you say 'remote start'? If you parked it with the heat on hot and the blower at about 3/4 would that take care of it? (Don't leave it on recirc, fresh forces inside air out some will escape through the doors...)

This is my first winter with my Titan, and this morning it was 5 degrees when I was getting ready to leave for work. I started my truck via the aftermarket remote starter and let it run for a good ten minutes. Went out to the truck and my handle froze....spent probably ten minutes slamming and re-slamming my door until it finally latched.

I hope this is not what I have to look forward to all winter. I am starting to get the impression that the R&D money was spent engine/tranny...interior was left to the interns.

Re: Getting prepared for Frozen Door Handles...

I don't have the door latch freezing shut problem and my truck has been sitting outside in snow and -F temps for the last few days. I installed sound deadening (bituminous + foam) in the doors.

Re: Getting prepared for Frozen Door Handles...

Weird...

Some have this problem and some don't.

We had some rain/sow/sleet mix over the weekend, plus the temps dropped into the low teens-my door opened right up, even with snow and ice all over it.

Yesterday, I decided I needed to wash the pig, since it was getting pretty dirty-outside air temp, 25 degrees, BRR!! On top of that, I was in the stall, and def. not in the sun, but still, the door opened right up?

Re: Getting prepared for Frozen Door Handles...

My driver door handle froze shut last night. I came out of the store and tried to open my truck and wasnt' really thinking about it. I pull kinda hard and something snapped inside the door. When this happened before I could just auto roll the window down and open it by reaching inside...but it wont even open that way now. My door is stuck shut. I have to climb through the passenger side. Unacceptable in my opinion on a 35k + vehicle. Goes for service monday.
