Slight Volant Problem? and general questions

I ordered a 2nd gen Volant intake off of eBay...slightly used for $175. I got it in the mail about 20 mins ago and I checked it out. It looks almost BRAND NEW which is not what I was expecting, but as Martha Stewart would say "it's a good thing" (not that I watch that crook) He also included a 2nd brand new filter and an unopened recharge kit. Sweet.

Anyways, everything is nice nice until I see whats pluging the ram scoop hole, a aerosol can cap with electrical tape as a gasket. Is this ok? Can I order a plug from Volant?

Plus...how long do you have to wait after you re-oil the filter?

Thanks

Many people have used the paint can cap without any problems. You don't have anything to worry about. You can order a cover from Volant. It is a soft plastic cap, probably not any better than what you have.

if you are planning on ordering the orignal plug you should just buy the ram air part! then you wont have to plug it up at all then..

Did you get a neoprene adhesive-backed pad with the kit? You'll need it to place under the airbox to cut some vibration. You can also drill out the mount holes on the box and install the rubber isolators from your oem box. This is what several of us have done with the Volant. I even did this on the Gen3 Volant kit....the more isolation the better.

As far as oiling the filter....reoil about every 3K miles or so. The oil that Volant uses is more MAF-friendly than other oils, but dries out much quicker. After using up the filter charger kit that you got with the kit, I'd recommend using the AFE filter charger kit....it's oil is MAF-friendly, as it does not use a sticky surfacant like K&N. Should allow you to go at least 30K miles between oiling/cleaning.

Nope...I didnt get the pad and now I KNOW why you need it. Holy CRAP thats loud! I can feel the vibrations thru the floorboards when I stomp on it. I just got home from installing it and testing it out for the first time...WOOO! That Volant is mean man.

Although unfortanatly...I'll have to deaden the vibes somehow. Where can I get the pad?
