Question How thick is our clearcoat?

Im planning on wetsanding my whole truck soon to remover the horrible orange peel that we have. Im going to be using Meguiars Unigrit 3000 Grit to do this, but I have no idea how safe it is to perform on the Titan. Anyone have any input? Thanks in advance!

With every manufacturer cutting cost these days, I'm willing to bet you have just enough clear coat to make the car shine. A reputable paint/body shop may be able to give you pretty close estimate of how thick it is, or you nissan dealer if they have a body shop

I started wet sanding cars when 1000 grit was the latest thing. That was the early days of base/clear. Now the paper is finer, the compounds are finer, and the polishing products are much better. Here is a good rule of thumb: if you have a scratch that you can feel with an average thumbnail, it is 3Knth of an inch. That should tell you what you have to work with. I heard that 3M has a system (called tri-zact) that connects to a D/A sander that does final finish dry. Hope this helped a little. Please post your research.
Rick.

I had horrible experience with painting. If I ever attempted this, I would probably just cut through the clear coat and hit the actual paint.

The guy did a great job on his car but I doubt it will last and it will feel very rough over time compared to a thicker coat of CC he could've kept.

I have been wanting to do the same thing to my Black truck for a while now. Actually, the Porter Cable ramdom orbitol buffer that Lexus guy used is supposed to be one of the best and thats the same one I'm going to use.

Although...I think I'm going to wait a while longer before I mess with the paint. I think my truck still looks OK. Im going to wait for the paint to get much worse before I wet sand. You can only sand your paint a few times untill you start getting close to the real paint. So...I guess its not bad thing to not jump the gun.

We have a LOT more surface area then a medium sized car....and our sheet metal in places ( Hood...roof..etc ) is VERY thin and prone to dents...you have a huge job ahead of you. Good luck and show us those results
