Full dual exhaust system

Has anyone tried to do a dual exhaust system from the factory headers with replacing the catalytic converters and using an x-pipe system, simular to what they have for the ford lightning truck, without the sensors going wacko?

Are you talking about the primary cats or secondary cats (4wd only, 2wd has resonators)? And do you mean replace cats with high-flows, or eliminate with test pipes?

The only person I know that eliminated both primary and secondary cats was JetTech. He also had the JBA shorty headers. He lost gobbs of low-end grunt and ended up re-installing the primary cats.

I have replaced my rear cats with Dynomax bullet resos. You just need to install bungs for the secondary O2 sensors to keep the ecu happy...just make sure you use good gaskets so you'll have no leaks. You'll get excellent flow with a straight-thru bullet, w/o the rasp you get with just test pipes.

There are quite a few here who are running true duals w/ x/h pipe, although a properly sized single muff setup w/ new y-pipe will flow just as well.

I cut out the resos on my 2wd and it is too raspy. Need to find some good resonators to replace them.

Got my Dynomax bullets from summit racing for $31/ea. They are aluminized steel. gr8titan found some SS bullet resos for not much more if you're wanting SS.

Sorry, I don't remember the #'s. Just go to summitracing.com and search "dynomax race bullet" and look for the 2.5"X2.5" ones...should be like $31/ea. I also bought the summit brand O2 sensor weld-on bungs there. They are the mild steel, 18X1.5mm bungs. They were like $5/ea.

I have a custom true dual exhaust that exits in front of the right rear tire similar to the Lightning. Click on the exhaust links below my SIG for pics.

I am a firm believer that lesser backpressure equates to more power. The recent dyno (Mustang Dyno) on my Titan supports this belief. What is exciting is the massive torque of 347.3 ft-lbs@ low 3750 rpms. Apparently, add 8% to these numbers to get 375 ft-lbs of Dynojet equivalent.

I credit the dual 2.5" "short run" - "minimal turn" Mandrel bent pipes with two "rifled" straight flow Ractive glasspacks for this power gain. Contributory to all this power is the X-pipe, replacement of the secondary catalytic converter with straight flow resonators + the Volant CAI.

Yes...technically all resonators are just mufflers. My brother just installed these exact same Dynomax Bullets in his '64 vette.....very aggressive sound when used as a muffler!
