06 RF Stereo now plays Mp3/wma

Just noticed in the model year changes thread that the 06 Rockford Falsegate (aka C.R.A.P) radio now plays mp3s and wmas. I was wondering if the repacement radios that people are getting for the FM fade issue are the new mp3/wma ones or just the left overs? Has anyone that's gotten their RF radio replaced checked this? I'm getting the FM fade on my 05 which I thought was supposed to be fixed before I bought it. (yeah I know check the build date on the truck) So..... when i finally bug the dealer enough to switch the radio I'm really hoping I get the new one. Nothing like having about 30 cd's on one disc.

It's not just the RF that plays MP3s. The SEs 6 CD player does the same. I'll be having mine replaced with the newer one.

How long should we wait to have our radios replaced? Mine has been getting really bad reception and fading, but I want to wait long enough to get the newer ones. Has anyone done this yet?

I have a 04 LE w/ the RF and DVD. I was ticked the first time I tried to play a MP3 disk in the head unit. I then thought that most DVD players play mp3's as well so I tried it in the factory DVD and it wourked great. It's just a pain to change tracks. At least it works!

I just fould out today that I can't have my radio replaced with the 06 version. The dealer uses your VIN and numbers off the old radio to send it back to Panasonic for warranty replacement. Now they may very well send you a new one but they can't specify an 06 version....damn it....lol.

Well that could be very well true, but I know I didn't have to wait for them to send back a radio. I'm not sure if that's what you were saying. I just went in and told them I need the radio replaced and they called me a couple days and told me it was in, simple as that. I would think they'd send you whatever they currently have in their warehouse. You might just get lucky and get an '06 version.

They way it was done the first time it was replaced (yep...still fades) was they removed my radio, wrote the numbers down, and puit it back in until the new one came in. They may very well do it differently now. But I doubt they'll have an 06 sitting on the shelf.....yet.

Hmmm, yeah I seem to recall them taking the numbers down on mine as well. I had it done a long time ago and never noticed the fade return. Of course now I have an aftermarket HU, so I couldn't tell you if the OE HU is still working fine.

I guess I'll call and ask my local service guy. I'll probably end up getting an 05 replacement, but I need to get my rear power window fixed. Since day one it has squeeked like crazy!
