Diesel engine

I heard/read/saw something somewhere alluding to Nissan making a deal with Navistar for supplying the 4.something L diesel engine for the likes of the Titan and Armada's.
Anyone else here of this?

nothing that specific. If you could find that source again and let us know it would be helpful. We have heard rumors of a diesel Titan but nothing about a supplier or even a number of cylinders.

Someone told me that Nissan owns a good part of Caterpillar now and that they'll be making the diesels.

I came out of a restaraunt about this time last year in the Nashville area and noticed a guy cheking out my Titan. He told me he worked at the Nissan engine plant in Dechard, TN. At that time he told me he had heard that Nissan was thinking about putting a powerstroke diesel in the Titan, and making a heavy duty model.

Haven't heard anything about it since then, but sure would be nice for the torque and fuel economy.

More rumors..

I thought Nissan was currently doing a feasbility study on a turbo diesel.

I heard it was an International, which makes Powerstroke I think, 4.6L turbo diesel.

It was looking at an '07 release...just a rumor guys.

for those of us that are waiting and hoping for a turbo diesel for the Titan it is coming and just got word last night 10-15-2005 that the engine will be a CUMMINS TD and that 4 have already been sent Japan for tear-down and a Nissan stamp of approval. this news was from my very outstanding and very reliable source @ John Hubler Nissan dealership, by far the absolute best service dept ever no bs just straight-forward people with the customer in mind; in Columbus,Indiana the home town of Cummins.

Cummins-straight 6-would be my choice.

The Cummins-straight 6-would be my choice.I think-Ford owns Cummins now??Is that bs?I certainly hope so,I don't picture Ford helping Nissan to compete in the HD market??
A straight six is very smooth, and inherently more efficient than a V-8 of the same displacement-usually less ring friction-and usually less surface area exposed to hot gasses,so less heat lost(and more used to push that piston. It can have more main bearings, but that is a plus(especially in a 20/1 TD).
You could put a 6 speed auto( in there and gear it really tall-say 1300 RPMS at 60 mph),but still have very low gearing for towing and starting with a load.Charlie
PS The 1/2 ton would have to be a 5.9(a 4.5 would be enough),but with the right gearing,it would still do well mpg wise.

hey guys just htought I would letyou know when any new info comes out on the TD for the TITAN and the displacement, H.P. and Trq. ratings but I can say that the engineers at Nissan have four TD's from Cummins and is tearing them down to see if they are going to be what they are wanting to put into the 2007-2008 model year option as well as a 3/4 ton and possible 1-ton in the next few years

I will keep you all informed Go Titan Power!!!!!!!

IF Nissan could make a kick arse auto tranny and mate that to a cummins, cat, international that would be the whole key. The dodge and ford trannys cant handle the power and chevy has the allison (great) but have probs with overheating and head gaskets on there D-max. IMO no one has the whole packege yet and the first that does will be selling me a truck.
