After 4 diff's I still have no idea why they failed

The day before yesterday after my 4th. rearend cratered... after only 1800 miles, (39,000 mile total on an 04) no towing, 4x4 off road le... with big tow pkg... I got mad and did a little research to find out why on my own today...
if anyone that has had a rearend fail on an 04, 05 or 06. we need to visit via e-mail to check out my speculations and when confirmed will anounce reason. direct e-mail ccsi1@swbell.net and let's correspond... especially if yours cratered and the wheels came off...

I am boiling mad...I'm from texas... stranded in florida til nissan ships in another one... or they take this one back ...

Other than underfilled diffs in the beginning, owner abuse would make the most sense. I've had my truck for a year and have been towing our 28' TT for most of that year with no problems at all. So just what are your thoughts? Share with us.

Ive got about 10800miles on my '04 Silver XE KC. I've had the brakes replaced once, but i need to take it again to get it replaced seeing as how my cab shakes violently when i press the brakes at speeds of 55 or higher. So far I haven't had any problems with my rear differential as far as i can tell. I kinda wish it were sooner than later though since i know its more than likely going to happen. I just dont want it to happen once i have a hitch and my 4wheeler + deer pullin a camper.

Why not just post your thoughts? Alot of people would like to hear a legit theory. I was thinking it was underfilled diff or wrong lube type, but alot of people have reported failures with fresh lube in there so I dunno.

ccsi1@swbell.net

I will have enough information when I talk to at least 2 other people that had a total failure of their diff's before I will be pretty certain of what I speak as legit... I am not going to let nissan have the unit back until I either get another truck with the problems corrected that I discussed with them today or I will ship it back to texas in pieces for formal testing at Southwest Testing Labs in Texas... It is not gopspel just yet... It will be someday soon... I am sorry for the hang ten but please allow me to communicate with those that respond... then we'll jointly explain our loss...

Geez...this isn't Law and Order! Spill the beans before we lose interest. Sounds fishy to me personally.

Sounds very fishy to me as well. Just one day after the entire rear diff thread and all it's contrived issues someone pops into the forum with no previous posts and says they have had 4 rear ends replaced. What they won't tell us is what they want everyone else to tell them - how it happened.

I am sure that talking to two others will give him all the necessary details. More likely it will give them all time to get their stories straight.

If you can't formulate your own guess, here is a list of 10 suitable for late night TV:

1. factory underfill

2. pins backing out or shearing off (possibly due to differential thermal expansion)

3. metallurgical problem (alloy, heat treatment)

4. gear tooth geometry problem

5. improper preload

6. drivetrain misalignment

7. the axle wrap is beating the differential to death

8. tug of war with a Honda Civic with the e-brake engaged

9. why would you put a Dana 44 in a truck with a 9,500 lb. tow rating?

and

10. what are you guys smoking? I towed a D-9 with mine at least 30,000 miles on the original factory fill gear oil and have never had any problem.

What's with the cloak and dagger. Sounds like either a troll (note 3 posts), a scam, or someone like a lawyer looking for some examples. Sorry, but you'll have to do better. You wouldn't be related to some African Prince that needs money to be saved would you?

Hi Cssi1.
Way cool and upstanding that you would post your email addr right there I feel it makes you very credible in me book.

Here is a quote from another thread by MikeUP who just posted this:
"Took the service guys for a drive and he felt it also. Found out what it was, the rear end is going out! I babied this truck and didn't tow over 50 mph and even added synthetic before I even started to tow per Nissan's recommendation. Service guys had prior experience as they have now replaced 3 differentials in Titans because of failure."
So perhaps the issues you are having are not as isolated as we believe here on this forum.

Would like to hear what the cause of the failures is.

And from the top 10 list at Bestatchess I too agree with Kartman why under-size rather than super-sizing it indeed so that it can handle all the ponies hoofing it and then some in the torque dept!

Well, I'm curious to what he thinks he has found. If it's legit and he gets Nissan's attention we all could benefit.

I'm in the wait and see mode. Time will tell the merit of his "metal."

While we're waiting.....Hey, what ever happened to that kid whose rear went out on his way to see his grandfather before he died? It seemed like he lost another one after that....anyone remember his username?
